Ulberg may have essentially been fighting on one leg in the
UFC
327 main event, but that didn’t prevent him from achieving his
goal.
Despite being hobbled with an apparent right knee injury, “Black
Jag” dropped Jiri
Prochazka with a left hook and finished his opponent with
follow-up punches at the 3:45 mark of Round 1 to claim the vacant
light heavyweight crown on Saturday night at the Kaseya Center in
Miami.

“The whole thing was, nothing was going to stop me. Nothing was
going to stop me when I was in that Octagon,” Ulberg said in a
post-fight interview with the UFC. “Although we knew we had this
issue with the leg, I knew that nothing was going to stop me from
getting that win.”
There was no immediate prognosis for the injury, though speculation
was that Ulberg might have suffered a torn ACL.
“We don’t know yet what’s wrong with it,” he said. “I think it’s
just the knee sort of just gave out. So we’ll figure it out.”
A Surreal Feeling
In the immediate aftermath, the City Kickboxing standout was more
focused on savoring the moment with his team.
“It’s also surreal at the moment, but slowly it’s just letting it
sink in. I always knew that it was destined for us,” Ulberg said.
“We got the job done.
“It’s good to have the team here,” he added. “It just feels like
we’re at home. And yeah, there’s a lot of jokes going flying around
and laughter. And it’s a nice feeling when you’ve got the biggest
fight of your life and the guys are making fun of you or sharing
laughs and just making it all feel like we’re at home.”
Depending on the severity of the injury, it could be some time
before Ulberg is able to make his first light heavyweight title
defense.
“I guess the main thing now is to go back and assess this leg, try
and get back to the A game and see if we can come back as soon as
possible,” Ulberg said.
“It’s all so surreal at the moment.”
