Joselyne Edwards did ‘self-evaluation’ ahead of fight against Norma Dumont

Joselyne
Edwards
did some deep introspection before the biggest win of
her career so far.

Edwards faced her biggest step up in competition in Norma
Dumont
in the co-main event at
UFC Fight Night 274
in Las Vegas. Edwards earned a hard-fought
unanimous decision win after three rounds of back-and-forth
action.

Edwards subsequently emphasized her newfound skillset of patience.
Edwards revealed that she has recently developed a reading habit
and the practice of meditation. The 30-year-old has also been
reassessing herself based on her past performances. While Edwards
has four losses in her UFC career, the Panamanian believes they
were mostly due to her being “dumb” and not learning from her
mistakes. Edwards has also leared to enjoy her own company while
self-reflecting and planning her future.

Self Evaluation

“I have developed the virtue of patience in my game,” Edwards said
in a post-fight interview with the UFC. “I now know when to work
for things and when to strike at the right time… When you put your
life in perspective and you start planning your life, you learn a
lot of things. I like to read a lot. I like to get informed a lot.
I got into the habit of reading. When you come out of your home
country – I’m here in Vegas – yes, I have friendships and the team,
they help me a lot, they’re with me all the time. But whenever
you’re alone, you have to just take your time and enjoy your
moments alone. You maybe have to reassess yourself. I sat down and
thought about what I had done throughout my career. I’ve had some
losses by decision. I felt they were dumb, like we say back home,
‘hard headed.’ I wouldn’t take new things in. I though to myself,
‘They were dumb losses, you can do better.’ Lot of self-evaluation,
lot of reading, I love to meditate, and I started thinking about
the last steps to do my next step.”

Edwards (18-6) is currently riding a five-fight winning streak, the
longest of her
UFC
career, including four finishes. Edwards is eyeing either
the top two bantamweight contenders or a title shot next.
