Women’s strawweights kick off festivities at UFC Vegas 120, as
Canuto (7-1, 0-0 UFC) dukes it out with Foro (9-1, 0-0 UFC) at 115
pounds. Chris Tognoni draws the officiating assignment. Glove touch
gets them out of the gate. Leg kick from Foro inside the first 10
seconds. They trade jabs, and Foro sneaks in a left hook and
another leg kick. Foro now targets the body, then goes back to the
leg. Canuto answers with a left hook and a jab. Another leg kick
from Canuto. For lands a left hook to the body, along with another
hard low kick. Canuto responds with two leg kicks of her own. Nice
one-one-two from Canuto. Foro staggers her counterpart with a left
hook, then takes aim at the lead leg. Canuto shoots on the hips. No

Round 2
Foro clearly out in front at the start of Round 2. Lack of
firepower definitely an issue for Canuto. Foro jabs at the body,
resets and avoids the return fire. Canuto changes levels and
secures a takedown, then moves behind her counterpart. She takes
her time, punches the side of the head and sets both hooks. Foro
suddenly in real danger. Canuto bites down on a body triangle,
threatens the neck and forces her opponent onto all fours. Foro
eats a few punches to the side of the head while trying to control
a wrist. Midway through the round. Action stalls. Canuto frees one
of her hands and scores with hammerfists. Ninety seconds left.
Canuto resets her hooks and starts to punch again before briefly
threatening the neck. She transitions to kimura and lands elbows to
the body and leg. Strong round for Canuto.

Should be a round apiece as they traverse the final five minutes.
Foro takes the center and leans into her jab. Canuto secures
another takedown. Foro immediately gets back to her feet and
separates. Canuto paws with her jab but eats a one-two. Foro closes
in behind hooks from both hands, her stout jab and damaging low
kicks. Canuto answers with a right over the top. Canuto trips Foro
to the floor but cannot keep her there. For unleashes jabs and
hooks, some to the head, others to the body. Canuto cuts loose with
punches of her own but lacks the firepower of her adversary. Foro
sprawls on an attempted takedown and keeps the action on the feet.
Canuto shoots on a single-leg and clings to it, then pushes Foro to
the fence. Foro lands elbows to the side of the head. Canuto goes
to her knees and eats more elbows. Canuto switches angles and gets
a takedown with a little more than a minute to go. She moves to
north-south position and attacks the right arm with an armbar.
Canuto breaks Foro’s grip and extends the arm but cannot produce
the submission. Foro scrambles free, shuts off a takedown attempt
and batters her opponent with punches. They exchange wildly for the
final 10 seconds.

125 pounds. Kerry Hatley administers the law and order. Inside leg
kick from Oliveira. The Brazilian leans into her jab, then whiffs
on an overhand right. Oliveira sneaks in another jab and follows
with an inside leg kick. Sharp overhand right from Miller. Oliveira
answers with a one-two, forcing her counterpart to clinch. Miller
throws knees to the body from the clinch and traps Oliveira along
the fence. More knees to the body from Miller, who has slowed the

position in half guard. Miller passes guard to side control behind
standing-to-ground punches, then moves to knee on belly. She
continues to drop elbows. Oliveira appears to have lost her way

Off they go in the middle stanza. Miller feints early and often, as
the two women circle each other in the center of the cage. Oliveira
blocks a high kick, but Miller crashes forward and completes a
takedown. She lands in side control and starts to let the elbows
fly. Oliveira moves to all fours.
Miller takes the back, sets one hook and goes palm to palm on a
fight-ending rear-naked choke.

where Johns (15-5, 6-5 UFC) awaits Vazquez (14-6, 0-1 UFC) at 145

hands from opposing stances. Hard leg kick from Vazquez breaks the
ice. Johns stalks from the center of the cage and whiffs on an

pounds. Jason Herzog steps into the Octagon to referee. Miranda
probes with his jab. Inside leg kick from Sousa. The Brazilian
follows a one-two with another inside leg kick. Sousa clinches and
pins the promotional newcomer to the fence. They trade elbows at
close range but stay in the clinch. Miranda lands a 12-to-6 elbow

Miranda shoots on the hips but cannot procure the takedown. Sousa
braces himself against the fence and separates the grip. He lands a

Lopes (14-3, 1-2 UFC) toes the line against Nurgozhay (11-2, 1-2
UFC) at 205 pounds. Hatley exercises the oversight. A glove touch
lights the fuse on this one. Nurgozhay opens with a leg kick out of
the southpaw stance. Two more low kicks. Lopes answers with one of
his own. One two from Nurgozhay followed by a front kick to the
body. He shoots a straight left to the body and backs it up with
two more leg kicks. Body kick from Lopes. They trade low kicks.
Nurgozhay fires away with a right hook upstairs, then goes back to
the legs with kicks. They trade low kicks again. Nurgozhay taking
aim at both of the Brazilian’s legs with kicks. Lopes clinches but
goes nowhere with it. Ninety seconds to go. More leg kicks from
Nurgozhay. Lopes connects with a kick to the midsection. Nurgozhay
retreats after being poked in the eye, resulting in a brief pause
to the action. Nurgozhay uses the restart to get back to his
trusted kicking game. He shoots another straight left to the body
and follows it with a back kick to the body. Nurgozhay floors the
Brazilian with an overhand left and swarms with punches. Lopes
somehow gets to his feet and gets a takedown.
Nurgozhay scrambles to his feet, plows forward behind an uppercut
and drops him again with a left hook. This time, Hatley has seen
enough and waves it off with just one second left on the
clock.

Dean polices the proceedings. Asplund opens with a leg kick and
presses forward. Pat ducks a one-two and clinches. Asplund turns
the Brazilian into the fence and works short punches to the head
with knees to the legs and body. They jockey for position along the

Pretty clear that Goff faces an uphill climb in this one. Miller

touch gets them started. Lemos attacks the lower lead leg with a
kick and lands a left hand over the top. Inside leg kick from
Thainara. Lemos answers with a front kick to the body, then thwarts
a takedown attempt. Inside leg kick from Lemos. Thainara connects
with a one-two. Another front kick to the body from Lemos, who then
checks her compatriot’s chin with a left hook. Thainara clinches
and fires knees to the legs and body. Lemos answers with some of
her own. One of Thainara’s knee strikes hits the nether region and
results in a pause to the action. Lemos needs some two and a half
minutes to recover. Thainara paws with the lead hand, eats a left
hook and lands one of her own. They exchange again. Thainara lands
two more heat-seeking left hooks to the head. Lemos clinches and
works for a takedown. No luck there. Thainara turns her into the

They meet in the middle of the cage to start the middle stanza. Low

hook. Lemos lands a low kick, only to eat a sharp right on the
return. Jabs from Lemos start to land. Thainara shoots a right hand
to the body, then punches in combination to the head. She clinches

body with short punches upstairs. Lemos tries and fails to push her
off-balance but manages to break free midway through the round. Low
