Jon Jones Trolls Tom Aspinall, Pokes Fun at Online Petition

The future of the heavyweight division remains murky at best, but
one thing is crystal clear: Jon Jones is
enjoying himself.

The
UFC
heavyweight champion took to social media on Saturday to
troll Tom
Aspinall
following a seminar in Thailand, where ā€œBonesā€ claimed
a large percentage of those in attendance came from the U.K. Jones
jokingly gave credit to Aspinall, a native of Lancashire, England,
for the boost.

ā€œJust wrapped up the biggest seminar in Phuket history,ā€ Jones
wrote. ā€œHalf the crowd flew in from the UK—how wild is that?!
Massive shoutout to my guy Tom for all the free promo… couldn’t
have done it without you.

ā€œSeriously though, I’m beyond grateful for this brand new UK
following. You guys showed up with so much love and energy, and I
felt every bit of it.ā€

Aspinall has repeatedly expressed his frustration with the
stagnation of the division as he awaits word of a potential
heavyweight title unification bout against Jones. While UFC CEO
Dana White has assured the MMA community that Jones vs. Aspinall
will happen, ā€œBonesā€ has been largely disinterested in the matchup,
even hinting that he is all but retired in recent social media
posts.

That attitude has swayed public sentiment against Jones, which was
reflected in a recently-launched online petition to strip the New
York native of the heavyweight crown. As of Saturday morning, the
change.org petition had exceeded 170,000
signatures. Jones also couldn’t resist mocking that effort.

ā€œLet’s keep this momentum going—make sure to sign that petition
today, we’re pushing 200k!ā€ Jones wrote. ā€œHow exciting.ā€

As for Aspinall, he at least seems to be maintaining a sense of
humor about it all, despite having not fought since last July.

ā€œMy pleasure Jon,ā€ he wrote in response to Jones post regarding the
seminar attendance. ā€œTold you I’m not an asshole. Glad you’re
enjoying retirement.ā€
