Williams was originally scheduled to fight Uros Medic
in a welterweight matchup at UFC 316 on June 7 at the Prudential
Center in Newark, New Jersey. However, Medic announced via Instagram he has been forced to pull out
of the fight due to a sinus illness that eventually required
antibiotics.

“Hey everyone I wanted to share that my team and I had to make the
tough decision to withdraw from my upcoming fight due to some
health issues I’ve been dealing with behind the scenes,” Medic
wrote. “I’ve been battling a stubborn sinus infection that affected
my training, breathing and recovery, that eventually had to be
treated with antibiotics. It wasn’t an easy call to make, but out
of respect for the sport, my team, and you guys, I know this is the
right move. I’ll be back as soon as I’m fully healthy.”

Williams was then briefly matched with replacement opponent
Albert
Tadevosyan
, according to Eurosport. However, Tadevosyan was out almost as
quickly as he was announced due to an issue completing his physicals.

Despite those difficulties, Williams’ fight is still in place. As
first reported by FrontkickOnline, Andreas
Gustafsson
will now step in and face the Lansing, Michigan,
native at UFC 316. Gustafsson was originally to compete at UFC
Vegas 107
on Saturday, but both of his proposed opponents —
Jeremiah
Wells
and Trevin
Giles
— fell through before the event.

Gustafsson will make his promotional debut after earning a
UFC
deal with a second-round stoppage of Pat Pytlik
on
Dana White’s Contender Series
last August. The 32-year-old
Swede owns an 11-2 professional mark with 10 of those victories
coming inside the distance.

Meanwhile, Williams is 2-2 in his last four and comes off a
submission loss against Gabriel
Bonfim
