One prominent
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> heavyweight is not mad, he’s
\njust disappointed.<\/p>\n

After suffering his second defeat in the promotion to Alexander
\nVolkov<\/a> at UFC 321, the 10-fight UFC vet Jailton
\nAlmeida<\/a> returns to the Octagon on Saturday. He battles another
\nRussian in the hulking Rizvan
\nKuniev<\/a>, with the two coming to blows at UFC Vegas 113, also
\nknown as
\nUFC Fight Night 266<\/a>, in Las Vegas. In a conversation with
\nAg. Fight<\/a> on Wednesday, the Brazilian revealed why he
\naccepted the short-notice matchup with the unranked Kuniev.<\/p>\n

\u201cActually, I always stay active,\u201d Almeida explained. \u201cEven when I
\ndon\u2019t have a fight, I\u2019m helping my teammates. When the UFC offered
\nthe fight three weeks ago, with the option to renew the contract, I
\ntalked to my manager and we decided to accept this first fight of
\nthe new contract.\u201d<\/p>\n

While a wrestler in Curtis
\nBlaydes<\/a> and a striker in Volkov have gotten the better of him
\nin the cage thus far, Almeida sees a far different stylistic clash
\nwith two-time Dana White’s Contender Series<\/a> competitor.<\/p>\n

\u201cKuniev is a very dangerous guy, that\u2019s why nobody agreed to fight
\nhim,\u201d \u201cMalhadinho\u201d expressed. \u201cEveryone thought he had won the
\nfight with Curtis Blaydes, but I\u2019m going there to play my game,
\ncome out with the victory and get back on the path to the belt
\nagain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jailton also spoke about the lessons learned from his close
\ndecision loss to Volkov.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no defeat. There is learning. I controlled the fight from
\nthe top, but I lacked aggressiveness, obviously. I was trained for
\nthat, but I wasn\u2019t confident enough to execute it. I think that was
\nthe only detail,\u201d the Brazilian analyzed.<\/p>\n

A Real Man Can\u2019t Have Two Faces<\/h2>\n

Almeida, 34, is the highest-ranked Brazilian in the heavyweight
\ndivision. He began his career in the sport in 2012 and debuted in
\nthe UFC in 2022. Throughout his career, the Bahia, Brazil, native
\nhas built a record of 22 wins, 21 by stoppage, and he has suffered
\nfour losses. Almeida can hang his hat on victories over names like
\nDerrick
\nLewis<\/a>, Jairzinho
\nRozenstruik<\/a> and Serghei
\nSpivac<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a broadcast<\/a> earlier this week, the heavyweight spoke to
\njournalist Laerte Viana about his hurt feelings regarding criticism
\nfrom UFC commentator and former heavyweight champion Daniel
\nCormier<\/a>. He learned of Cormier\u2019s negative words during in a
\nconversation with Tom
\nAspinall<\/a> backstage at UFC Abu Dhabi during his fight week with
\nVolkov.<\/p>\n

\u201cCormier is an exceptional guy,\u201d Almeida made sure to say first. \u201cI
\nalways joked with him, but I think [what he said about me is]\nunprofessional of him. Because the guy was whispering about another
\nathlete. Even though he\u2019s a UFC employee, he has no right to do
\nthat. I think it was disrespectful to me. I always treated him like
\nan icon, an idol of the sport. And then he goes and says something
\nlike that? You end up disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The frustrated Brazilian continued, \u201cThen, he made a post
\napologizing, but we\u2019re not in anyone\u2019s heart. I\u2019ll let this
\nsituation pass. I\u2019m a man and I speak my mind. I don\u2019t say anything
\nbehind anyone\u2019s back. If it\u2019s to say something good, I say it. If
\nit\u2019s to say something bad, I say it to anyone\u2019s face. My father
\ntaught me that. I will always be a man, regardless of anything. If
\nthe time comes and he talks to me, I\u2019ll talk to him. If he doesn\u2019t
\ntalk to me, f*** him. But I think that\u2019s something a guy who isn\u2019t
\na man would do. To whisper in someone\u2019s ear about someone who
\nalways respected him, always treated him very well? I always
\ntreated him like a sports icon for him to talk badly about me like
\nthat. It\u2019s messed up. A real man can\u2019t have two faces. He has to be
\na man, regardless of anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
