After rebounding from a loss to Benoit St.
\nDenis<\/a> with a impressive TKO win over Rafael
\nFiziev<\/a> last Saturday at
\nUFC 325<\/a>, Mauricio
\nRuffy<\/a> revealed how important it was for him to spend two months
\ntraining with featherweight champion Alexander
\nVolkanovski<\/a> in Australia.<\/p>\n

“In my mind I had a very good takedown defense \u2014 at least that what
\nI\u00b4ve always heard. But after my last fight, I decided to go after
\nimprovement. Those two months in Australia were really important.
\nTraining with Volkanovski, I found out that I know nothing about
\ngrappling,\u201d Ruffy told Laerte Viana.<\/p>\n

Ruffy also praised the
\nUFC<\/a> for having confidence in him after his first loss within
\nthe promotion.<\/p>\n

“They trusted in my potential and gave me a more difficult opponent
\nthan the previous one,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

An Illness Scare<\/h2>\n

After beating Fiziev and winning a $100,000 \u201cPerformance of the
\nNight\u201d bous, Ruffy revealed that he almost had to withdraw from the
\nfight due to illness.<\/p>\n

“If I had lost, I would never have opened up about that, but I
\nspent four days in a bed shaking with fever,\u201d Ruffy said. \u201cI was
\nweighting 76 kilograms (167 pounds), but due to the medicines I
\ntook I went back up to 80 kilograms (176 pounds), but fortunately I
\nwas able to recover.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the interview, Ruffy\u2019s right hand appeared to be very
\nswollen. The Brazilian said the even if his hand is broken he
\nexpects to be available for the UFC White House card in June.<\/p>\n
