\nOliveira<\/a>\u2019s ascent in the bantamweight division.<\/p>\n

The MMA Lab product rebounded from a loss to Umar
\nNurmagomedov<\/a> this past October, as he submitted Oliveira (23-4,
\n4-1 UFC) with a rear-naked choke in the
\nUFC Vegas 113<\/a> headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on
\nSaturday night. Bautista (17-3, 11-3 UFC) elicited a tap from his
\nBrazilian foe at the 4:46 mark of Round 2, ending Oliverira\u2019s
\nsix-fight professional winning streak in the process. Bautista has
\nbeen victorious in nine of his last 10 promotional appeances.<\/p>\n

The finishing sequence was a thing of beauty. Bautista swept into
\ntop position following an Oliveira takedown attempt and quickly
\ntrapped his foe in a crucifix, where he dropped a series of elbows
\non his flailing adversary. From there, Bautista briefly threatened
\nwith a kimura before transitioning to a rear-naked choke. The
\nfight-ending maneuver was secured so quickly that it was only a
\nmatter of seconds before \u201cLok Dog\u201d called it quits.<\/p>\n

The bout started slowly, but it was clear that Bautista was a level
\nabove his less experienced foe. The Arizona-based fighter grounded
\nOliveira in the opening stanza, and from that point, the Brazilian
\nappeared content to remain on the canvas. When the second round
\nbegan, Oliveira already looked winded, and it wasn\u2019t long before
\nBautista was able to put the rising talent away.<\/p>\n

Horiguchi Confounds Albazi<\/h2>\n

More than 10 years after he first challenged for UFC flyweight
\ngold, Kyoji
\nHoriguchi<\/a> appears to be creeping closer to another title
\nshot.<\/p>\n

Horiguchi (36-5, 1 NC, 9-1 UFC) outmaneuvered and outstruck
\nAmir
\nAlbazi<\/a> for the better part of 15 minutes in the UFC Vegas 113
\nco-main event, capturing an impressive unanimous decision triumph
\nagainst a Top 10 opponent. The 35-year-old \u201cKarate Kid\u201d received
\nscorecards of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 from the cageside judges,
\nimproving to 2-0 in the UFC since returning to the Las Vegas-based
\npromotion last November. Horiguchi went 7-1 during an initial
\nOctagon stint from 2013 to 2016.<\/p>\n

Albazi had a brief glimmer of hope in the opening frame, when he
\nmade his Japanese opponent stumble to the canvas from a punch late
\nin the round. However, that blow wasn\u2019t scored a knockdown by
\nUFCStats.com, and Albazi would author few moments of note from that
\npoint forward.<\/p>\n

For the most part, the contest was defined by Horiguchi\u2019s superior
\nspeed, in-and-out movement and accurate punching combinations. The
\nformer Rizin champion landed nearly at will, wobbling his foe with
\npunches in both the second and third rounds. Though a finish didn\u2019t
\narrive, Albazi\u2019s face wore the damage after 15 minutes. The larger
\nIraqi fighter tried to initiate grappling on multiple occasions,
\nbut he was denied on all seven takedown attempts.<\/p>\n

Kuniev Outpoints Almeida<\/h2>\n

Clinch work and control time propelled Rizvan
\nKuniev<\/a> to a relatively uneventful unanimous decision triumph
\nover Jailton
\nAlmeida<\/a> in a heavyweight clash. All three judges saw the fight
\nfor the Dagestani: 30-27, 30-27, 29-28. Almeida has dropped
\nback-to-back outings after winning eight of his first nine UFC
\nappearances.<\/p>\n

Kuniev (13-3-1, 1 NC, 1-1 UFC) did his best work when he was able
\nto initiate the clinch and attack with body punches, knees and
\nelbows in close quarters. All too often, Almeida (22-5, 8-3 UFC)
\nwas willling to concede the position, though referee Dan
\nMiragliotta separated the combatants for inactivity on more than
\none occasion. Almeida let his hands go a little bit more in Round
\n3, but it wasn\u2019t nearly enough to make up for the early deficit on
\nthe scorecards.<\/p>\n

Oleksiejczuk Wins Slugfest<\/h2>\n

Michal
\nOleksiejczuk<\/a> and Marc-Andre
\nBarriault<\/a> traded blows for 15 minutes, but one final push
\nultimately made the difference for the Pole in a featured
\nmiddleweight slugfest. All three judges submitted 29-28 tallies in
\nfavor of Oleksiejczuk (22-9, 10-7, 1 NC UFC), who has won three
\nstraight contests.

Early on, it appeared as though Oleksiejczuk would cruise to
\nvictory, as he stalked Barriault (17-11, 6-10, 1 NC UFC) and
\nconsistently found a home for left hands to the head and body. To
\nhis credit, Barriault turned it into a dogfight down the stretch,
\npressuring his foe with right hands at range while also enjoying
\nsuccess with his dirty boxing and knees in close quarters.
\nOleksiejczuk was able to find his footing in Round 3, however, and
\na surge in the waning moments of the frame proved to be the
\ndifference in a back-and-forth affair.<\/p>\n

Basharat Stays Perfect<\/h2>\n

Farid
\nBasharat<\/a> held off a hard-charging Jean
\nMatsumoto<\/a>, earning a split-decision triumph to maintain his
\nundefeated professional record. Two judges scored the bout 29-28
\nfor Basharat (15-0, 6-0 UFC), while another saw it 29-28 in favor
\nof Matsumoto (17-2, 3-2 UFC). Both of Matsumoto\u2019s defeats in the
\nOctagon have come via split decision.

Basharat did some of his best work at range, landing straight
\npunches, step-in elbows and spinning attacks. Matsumoto, meanwhile,
\nenjoyed his most success when making things ugly by initiating the
\nclinch and attacking with power punches and knees at close range.
\nUltimately, Basharat was able to blend defensive enough wrestling
\nwith his striking to edge his Brazilian adversary on the
\nscorecards.<\/p>\n

Jacoby Thumps Walker<\/h2>\n

Dustin
\nJacoby<\/a> shook off a slow start to earn an emphatic victory over
\nonetime training partner Julius
\nWalker<\/a> in a featured light heavyweight encounter. The former
\nGlory Kickboxing talent brought the show to a close via technical
\nknockout 1:42 into Round 2, eaning his third consecutive UFC finish
\nin the process. Jacoby\u2019s seven KO\/TKO victories are tied for third
\nall-time in UFC light heavyweight history.<\/p>\n

Walker started well, executing multiple high-amplitude slams on his
\nstriking-minded opponent in the opening stanza. Jacoby turned it up
\na notch in Round 2, as he put Walker on wobbly legs with a 1-2
\nbefore dropping him with another straight right. \u201cThe Hanyak\u201d
\ninitially thought the fight was over, but when referee Dan
\nMiragliotta didn\u2019t intervene, Jacoby continued to pour on the
\npunishment. The 37-year-old Factory X product rocked his foe with
\nelbows to the side of the head while defending a desperation shot,
\nand then attacked with more punches along the fence. When Walker
\nstumbled to the floor, Miragliotta stepped in to save the reeling
\nfighter from further damage.<\/p>\n
