Dustin
\nPoirier<\/a> is seemingly not coming out of retirement just
\nyet. <\/p>\n

Poirier and Gaethje share a 1-1 head-to-head record in the
\nUFC<\/a>. While Poirier retired last year, Gaethje recently won the
\ninterim lightweight title against Paddy
\nPimblett<\/a> at UFC 324<\/a>
\nlast month. Gaethje’s violent performance against Pimblett was
\nenticing enough for Poirier to consider coming out of retirement.
\n\u201cThe Diamond\u201d said that he would be interested in returning for a
\ntrilogy matchup against Gaethje. <\/p>\n

Gaethje initially said he respects Poirier too much to deny him a
\nrubber matchup. However, Gaethje had mentioned that he was
\nprimarily looking ahead and not behind. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, lightweight champion Ilia
\nTopuria<\/a>, who was on a short hiatus, said that he is ready to
\nreturn this summer. Gaethje has now completely shut down the idea
\nof a trilogy fight against Poirier. \u201cThe Highlight\u201d is not lured by
\nthe idea of a trilogy against Poirier when he is likely to fight
\nTopuria in a title unifier. However, Gaethje would give it thought
\nif he was offered a matchup against Conor
\nMcGregor<\/a> at the White House in June.<\/p>\n

Focused on UFC Gold<\/h2>\n

\u201cNo, no. We\u2019re 1-1. I\u2019m fighting for the championship next,\u2019
\nGaethje told Stephen A. Smith. \u201cI mean, that is the biggest fight
\nin the world. For me, for this division, it\u2019s the biggest fight
\nthat any of us can ever have. I\u2019m fighting for an undisputed gold
\nchampionship belt. So there\u2019s nothing else that entertains me. If
\nthey came to me and said, ‘Do you want to fight McGregor at the
\nWhite House instead?’ I would think about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gaethje (27-5) was fairly new to the UFC when he suffered a
\nstoppage loss against Poirier (30-10)  in their first matchup
\nin 2018. Gaethje avenged the loss by sending Poirier to the shadow
\nrealm with a head kick in their rematch in 2023. Poirier went 1-2
\nafter his loss against Gaethje and called it career following a
\nloss to Max
\nHolloway<\/a> last July. <\/p>\n
