Javier Mendez recently explained why he believes Khabib
\nNurmagomedov<\/a> is the greatest MMA fighter of all time over
\nJon
\nJones<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Nurmagomedov\u2019s longtime coach, Mendez, recently picked him as the
\nMMA GOAT. Mendez also explained that he would have certainly picked
\nJones as the GOAT if not for the multiple PED violations. Mendez
\nnotes that several Olympic medallists have had their medals taken
\naway after they were found cheating. According to Mendez, Jones
\ncan\u2019t be considered the GOAT if the same logic applies to MMA.<\/p>\n

Transgressions Should Be Punished<\/h2>\n

\u201cThe GOAT for me is Khabib, and I would put Jon Jones<\/a> in
\nthat category, but I can\u2019t,\u201d Mendez said on the Ahmed Mahmood show.
\n\u201cIf you\u2019re caught doing something you shouldn\u2019t have been doing,
\nhow can you be considered at the top of the league? This is a true
\nsport, and in a true sport you cannot put that person ahead. How
\nmany people have won Olympic gold medals and then they find out
\nthey cheated one way or another and got the medals taken away from
\nthem? If it\u2019s true for every other sport, it should be true for MMA
\ntoo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nurmagomedov (29-0) defended the lightweight title thrice before
\nretiring as the undefeated champion in 2020. Meanwhile, Jones
\n(28-1) defended his light heavyweight title 12 times, the most in
\n
\nUFC<\/a> history, before moving up to heavyweight. \u201cBones\u201d won the
\nheavyweight title and defended it once before retiring. The only
\nloss in Jones\u2019 record was by disqualification due to a 12-to-6
\nelbow, a move that has since been legalized. However, Jones\u2019 career
\nis marred by multiple drug testing violations and skirmishes with
\nthe law due to his unruly personal life. While Jones was rallying
\nfor a return at the White House, he recently changed tune after
\nnews of his arthritis was leaked. <\/p>\n
