Like many Dagestani MMA stars, Usman
\nNurmagomedov<\/a> has the late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov to credit for
\nhis success.<\/p>\n

Usman (21-0) recently defended the
\nProfessional Fighters League<\/a> lightweight title for the second
\ntime against Alfie Davis<\/a>
\nat
\nPFL Road to Dubai<\/a>. Usman subsequently thanked his uncle for the
\nheights that he has scaled in his career. Usman revealed that while
\ntheir father pushed him and his brother, Umar, into sports, he
\ndidn\u2019t have championship aspirations for them. However, their uncle
\nAbdulmanap saw great potential in them and alerted their father
\nabout the same. While Abdulmanap is no longer with them, Usman is
\nglad to have his son, Khabib
\nNurmagomedov<\/a>, fill in his shoes.<\/p>\n

Realizing His Potential<\/h2>\n

\u201cThis everything is from my uncle Abdulmanap,\u201d Usman said on the
\nPFL Dubai broadcast. \u201cMy father pushed us into sports, but he
\ndidn\u2019t have any plans that we\u2019d be champions. But my uncle
\nAbdulmanap, he believed in us. He always came to my father and told
\nhim, \u2018Hey, I see your boys have big potential. Be careful with
\nthem.\u2019 Today, uncle Abdulmanap is not with us, but his son keeps
\ndoing his job with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abdulmanap is often considered the pioneer of MMA in Dagestan.
\nAbulmanap coached a group of elite fighters, including his son
\nKhabib, in the mountains of Dagestan before bringing them over to
\nthe U.S. Khabib won the
\nUFC<\/a> lightweight title, paving the way for fighters from the
\nCaucasus mountains to make their mark in the sport. After Khabib\u2019s
\nretirement as the undefeated champion in 2020, his teammate,
\nIslam
\nMakhachev<\/a> became the champion in 2022. Abdulmanap had predicted
\nall of it in what is now famously known as \u201cFather\u2019s
\nPlan.\u201d <\/p>\n
