Everyone has a thought on the unceremonious exit of
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> heavyweight Jailton
\nAlmeida<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The UFC\u2019s release of Almeida<\/a> set fire to the internet on
\nWednesday. After two lackluster fights, the top-10 UFC heavyweight
\nwas let go despite a promotional record of 8-3. The unexpected cut
\nimmediately reached the trending topics of MMA world with media,
\nfans and fighters discussing the reason in a division where
\nTai
\nTuivasa<\/a> suffered his sixth straight loss and still remains on
\nthe roster.<\/p>\n

Some of performances rubbed the UFC brass the wrong way, namely
\nwhen Almeida outgrappled Derrick
\nLewis<\/a> in a dreadful five-rounder where he unleashed very little
\ndamaging offense. His slow, plodding decision defeats to Alexander
\nVolkov<\/a> and Rizvan
\nKuniev<\/a> spelled his undoing, and UFC veteran Gilbert
\nBurns<\/a> picked up on that. \u201cDurinho\u201d shared his opinion through
\nhis YouTube<\/a> channel
\non Thursday about his countryman\u2019s release, bringing up two very
\nimportant points that may explain the UFC\u00b4s decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was a warning from UFC to all fighters,\u201d Burns
\nremarked. \u201cParamount just put a lot of money here. We are in a new
\nera. We need entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDurinho\u201d also made sure to add another aspect most did not
\naddress: the athlete\u2019s management team might not have been doing
\nthe best job they could to keep him under contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know [Almeida\u2019s] manager and I don\u2019t want to say anything
\nbad about this guy,\u201d Burns noted cautiously. \u201cBut the managers must
\nunderstand that they work for the fighters. After Lewis and Volkov,
\nprobably [the] UFC told him that they didn\u2019t like his performances.
\nThe manager should have warned the trainers and \u2018Malhadinho\u2019 about
\nthat in order to totally change his attitude in the Octagon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manage This<\/h2>\n

Furthering his point on the role of managers in the sport of MMA,
\nBurns harped on the importance of the manager to maintain a solid
\nrelationship with the company. He noted that his management team
\nhelmed by Ali Abdelaziz handled a similar issue for a future
\nchampion, helping out a fighter that may have not reached that
\nopportunity if not for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember that Ali once told me the UFC didn\u2019t like Kamaru
\n[Usman]<\/a>,\u201d Burns recalled. \u201cHe promoted a dinner with Kamaru and
\n[UFC President and CEO] Dana [White], who finally started to like
\nKamaru and created a relationship. After that, his career reached
\nanother level. And something similar happened to me when I accepted
\nto face [Khamzat]\nChimaev<\/a>. But unfortunately, most managers don\u2019t behave like
\nAli, they think that fighters will fire them if they have a good
\ncontact with the boss.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ex-welterweight title challenger knows that the MMA landscape
\noutside of the UFC is not what it once was, and options for big men
\nlike Almeida are limited. Burns only saw one reasonable path for
\nhis fellow Brazilian to carry on at the highest level.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore we had Bellator<\/a> and other events, today there is just one
\nway, PFL<\/a>. I truly hope \u2018Malhadinho\u2019 gets two amazing
\nknockouts there and gets his way back to the UFC. I really wish the
\nbest for him,\u201d Burns finished.<\/p>\n
