\nStrickland<\/a> would have ended differently under normal
\ncircumstances. <\/p>\n

Imavov (17-4) was scheduled to fight Kelvin
\nGastelum<\/a> in 2023. However, Strickland replaced an injured
\nGastelum on five days\u2019 notice. Strickland (29-7) went on to score a
\nunanimous decision win over Imavov. <\/p>\n

Strickland is now scheduled to headline
\nUFC Houston<\/a> against Anthony
\nHernandez<\/a> (15-2) on Saturday. The
\nUFC<\/a> recently posted highlights of Strickland\u2019s win over Imavov,
\npraising the former champion\u2019s forward pressure. Imavov was quick
\nto react, claiming he would have \u201ccrushed\u201d Strickland under normal
\ncircumstances. Since Imavov didn\u2019t make any excuses for the loss,
\nhe probably means the short-notice change of opponent.<\/p>\n

\u201cMake no mistakes, under normal conditions, I\u2019ll crush this guy!
\nMark my words,\u201d Imavov wrote.<\/p>\n

Strickland went on to become the middleweight champion with a huge
\nupset win over Israel
\nAdesanya<\/a>, just one fight removed from his win over Imavov.
\nStrickland lost the title against Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a>, rebounded with a win over Paulo
\nCosta<\/a>, and failed to reclaim the title against Du Plessis in a
\nrematch.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Imavov is undefeated in six straight outings since his
\nloss against Strickland. With wins over Roman
\nDolidze<\/a>, Jared
\nCannonier<\/a>, Brendan
\nAllen<\/a>, Adesanya and Caio
\nBorralho<\/a>, Imavov is widely considered the frontrunner for the
\nnext middleweight title shot against Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a>, who dethroned Du Plessis last year. <\/p>\n
