Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a> had to part with his lucky shorts after joining the
\n
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chimaev\u2019s (15-0) longtime grappling coach, Alan \u201cFinfou\u201d
\nNascimento, recently recalled giving his fighter a pair of shorts
\nthat would stay with him for a long time. \u201cFinfou\u201d gave Chimaev his
\nown shorts ahead of his amateur debut against Khaled
\nLaallam<\/a> in 2017. While Nascimento wanted his shorts back if
\nChimaev lost, the future UFC champion was certain that he would
\nwin. Chimaev washed the shorts and hung them up to dry before
\nsewing a patch of his coach\u2019s logo on them.<\/p>\n

Chimaev went on to submit his opponent in the first round with a
\nbrabo choke. Chimaev\u2019s talent was evident in his first fight, and
\n\u201cBorz\u201d turned pro the following year after two more amateur wins.
\n\u201cFinfou\u201d recalls that Chimaev used to wear the same pair of shorts
\nfor every fight before he entered the UFC. Chimaev was inactive for
\na while during the COVID-19 pandemic when his manager suddenly
\nsecured a UFC contract for a short-notice debut at Fight Island.
\nChimaev could never wear his lucky shorts again, as the UFC doesn\u2019t
\nallow fighters to wear personal kits.<\/p>\n

\u201cI gave him the shorts and I said to him, \u2018If you win you keep, if
\nyou lose, you give me back.\u2019 Then he said to me, \u2018Coach, I would
\nnever lose.\u2019… Then he took a patch with my logo and sewed it on
\nthe shorts,\u201d Nascimento told MMA Today. \u201cRight when I gave him the
\nshorts, he went to the guys changing room, went to the sink, he
\nwashed [the shorts with soap], dried, went and hung it to dry\u2026 He
\nwent and submitted the guy with a D\u2019Arce\u2026 Every fight he would ask
\nfor my shorts until the fight with Ikram [Aliskerov]. After that,
\nhe was without fighting for nine months. One day after training the
\nmanager came to the gym and said, \u2018Sign here\u2026 You go to Fight
\nIsland, you go to UFC.\u2019… And then he couldn\u2019t use my shorts
\nanymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
