Daniel
\nCormier<\/a> is impressed with the version of Sean
\nStrickland<\/a> that showed up at
\nUFC Houston<\/a> on Saturday. <\/p>\n

Strickland was a massive underdog going into his middleweight
\nheadliner against Anthony
\nHernandez<\/a> at UFC Houston on Saturday. However, Strickland
\ndisplayed his signature defensive striking masterclass from the
\nopening bell, never letting \u201cFluffy\u201d find his rhythm. Strickland
\nfolded Hernandez with a knee to the midsection in the third round
\nand followed up with a barrage of punches, forcing the referee to
\nstep in and stop the fight.<\/p>\n

Cormier believes that the version of Strickland that defeated
\nHernandez could also pose a serious threat to the champion Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a>. \u201cDC\u201d recalls that a similar version of Strickland had
\nshocked the world by dethroning Israel
\nAdesanya<\/a> to win the middleweight title in 2023. Strickland lost
\nhis title to Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a> in his first defense and failed to reclaim it in their
\nrematch. However, Cormier believes Strickland wasn\u2019t completely
\nlocked in against Du Plessis.<\/p>\n

A Formidable Test<\/h2>\n

\u201cIf that guy that showed up tonight shows up in that [Khamzat]\nfight, it would be a much more difficult fight for the great
\nKhamzat
\nChimaev<\/a>,\u201d Cormier said on YouTube. \u201cBecause even Israel
\nAdesanya<\/a>, at the peak of his power, struggled with that version
\nof Sean
\nStrickland<\/a>. In the Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a> fight, it didn\u2019t seem like Sean was locked all the way
\nin; he seemed a little messed up.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Strickland (30-7) and Chimaev (15-0) have trained together in
\nthe past, they are now trading barbs. Chimaev claims Strickland is
\nhostile towards him after getting choked out in training.
\nMeanwhile, Strickland brushes it off as a positional sparring
\nincident and claims to have made Chimaev quit training. <\/p>\n
