\nUFC<\/a>, by itself, doesn\u2019t want to restrict speech in any
\nway. <\/p>\n

Sean
\nStrickland<\/a> knocked out Anthony
\nHernandez<\/a> in the third-round of their
\nUFC Houston<\/a> headliner last Saturday. Known for his
\ncontroversial and unhinged opinions, fans were eagerly waiting for
\nStrickland\u2019s post-fight press conference. The former UFC
\nmiddleweight champion met the expectations by accusing Hernandez\u2019s
\ncoach, Jim West, of grooming former UFC fighter Aspen Ladd<\/a>.
\nHowever, Strickland\u2019s mic was muted soon after, and the press
\nconference abruptly ended. <\/p>\n

O\u2019Malley believes the UFC\u2019s new Paramount deal is responsible for
\nStrickland\u2019s presser getting cut short. During the ESPN era, UFC
\nnumbered events had to be purchased on a pay-per-view basis.
\nMeanwhile, the Fight Nights could be viewed on an ESPN+
\nsubscription. O\u2019Malley recalls that there was absolutely no
\nrestriction on speech after numbered cards during the ESPN era.
\nHowever, fighters would be instructed to avoid cussing after Fight
\nNights, which were broadcast on ESPN+. The ESPN era ended as the
\nUFC signed a $7.7 billion deal with Paramount, which came into
\neffect starting this year. Fans are now able to watch all UFC
\nevents with a Paramount+ subscription. O\u2019Malley believes there is
\nsome censorship on speech as even numbered UFC events are broadcast
\non Paramount.<\/p>\n

New Protocol?<\/h2>\n

\u201cThis is Paramount, not pay-per-view,\u201d O\u2019Malley said. \u201cOn
\npay-per-view, we were able to say f\u2014k, we could say whatever we
\nwant. The fight nights were on ESPN+, so they’re like, hey, don’t
\ncuss in your after-fight speech\u2026 [Now] even if it\u2019s a numbered
\nevent, we\u2019re on Paramount. The UFC doesn’t really limit what we
\nsay. $7.7 billion dollars \u2013 the UFC is probably like, \u2018Oh,
\nStrickland has the mic.\u2019\u201d
