Joshua
\nVan<\/a> admittedly didn\u2019t know that one of the greatest MMA
\nfighters of all time was in the
\nUFC<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Van (16-2) won the flyweight title against Alexandre
\nPantoja<\/a> via a freak injury at
\nUFC 323<\/a> this past December. \u201cThe Fearless\u201d had sparked
\ncontroversy in the lead-up to the fight by labellng Pantoja the
\ngreatest flyweight of all time. Fans instantly brought up Demetrious
\nJohnson<\/a> (25-4), who is widely considered not only the greatest
\nflyweight, but arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time. Van
\nlater explained that he hadn\u2019t watched much of Johnson\u2019s fights and
\ngrew up watching Pantoja. <\/p>\n

Not a Historian<\/h2>\n

Van recently revealed that he wasn\u2019t even aware that Johnson was in
\nthe UFC. The UFC flyweight champion only knew of \u201cMighty Mouse\u201d
\nfrom highlights of his viral flyweight knee knockout over Adriano
\nMoraes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI swear to God, I didn\u2019t know he was in the UFC,\u201d Van said on the
\n“Jaxxon Podcast.\u201d<\/a> \u201cI saw him fighting in
\nONE
\nChampionship<\/a>. His highlight was everywhere when he knocked out
\nthe guy with flying knee\u2026 Now I know him but I\u2019ve never watched his
\nfights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson defended the UFC flyweight title 11 times before losing it
\nto Henry
\nCejudo<\/a> in 2018. Johnson was surprisingly traded to ONE
\nChampionship following the loss in exchange for Ben Askren<\/a>.
\nJohnson went on to have an illustrious career in ONE Championship,
\nwhere he became the flyweight champion. Johnson officially hung up
\nhis gloves in 2024 and became the first ONE Championship Hall of
\nFame member. <\/p>\n
