\nGaethje<\/a> might have played out differently had fouls been aptly
\npenalized. <\/p>\n

Pimblett (23-4) and Gaethje (27-5) fought for the vacant
\nlightweight title in the main event at UFC 324<\/a>
\nlast month in Las Vegas. Gaethje handed Pimblett a beating en route
\nto a unanimous decision victory. However, the fight wasn\u2019t entirely
\ndevoid of controversy. <\/p>\n

Gaethje received a stern warning for poking Pimblett in the eye in
\nthe first round. Gaethje also dropped Pimblett late in the second
\nround and \u201cThe Baddy\u201d was barely saved by the bell. But replay
\nshowed that Gaethje blatantly poked Pimblett in the eye before
\ndropping him in the second round. However, despite the previous
\nwarning, Gaethje didn\u2019t have a point taken away.  Pimblett
\nnotes that the most damage he received from Gaethje was after he
\ngot poked in the eye and then dropped. The Liverpudlian came back
\nstrong and went on to went on to win the third round on all three of the judges\u2019
\nscorecards<\/a>. Pimblett wonders what might have happened had he
\nnot been poked in the eye in the second round and received all the
\ndamage that he did.<\/p>\n

Clear in Hindsight<\/h2>\n

\u201cHe had already been warned about it so I feel like he should have
\nhad a point taken right away\u2026 That won him the round, the
\nground-an- pound,\u201d Pimblett said on YouTube. \u201c[The eye poke] is
\nwhat put all the damage on me. You can see me blinking. That won
\nhim the round, that round was still up for grabs. ..I don\u2019t want to
\nsound like a sore loser but that changes the whole fight. I came
\nout [after the eye poke] and easily win the third round, so imagine
\nit never happened in a second.\u201d
