\nMasvidal<\/a>, with a twist.<\/p>\n

Russian quasi-MMA league Hype FC released<\/a> the news on
\nFriday that it would be holding an event on March 11 in Rio de
\nJaneiro. The top of that card will see a submission-only grappling
\nmatch between \u201cShara Bullet\u201d Magomedov against Masvidal, with the
\ntwo tangling for five-to-10 minutes at the Farmasi Arena in
\nBrazil\u2019s second-largest city\u2014Sao Paulo holds the top spot. A
\nprevious big-name grappling bout held by Hype FC between Arman
\nTsarukyan<\/a> and the aforementioned Magomedov resulted in a draw
\nlast year.<\/p>\n

Hype FC, the target of at least
\none police raid<\/a> in Moscow due to a myriad of charges ranging
\nfrom drug trafficking to fight fixing, has been flagged by Sherdog
\nFight Finder for its illegitimacy. While the league purports to run
\nMMA matches, it does so with modified rules including limited
\ngrappling time with automatic standups\/separations. It also put
\ntogether a reality show recently in the same vein as \u201cThe Ultimate
\nFighter\u201d with coaches Arman
\nTsarukyan<\/a> and Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a>, only with more brawls and confrontations.<\/p>\n

Fight for Hype<\/h2>\n

The organization has not announced any other bouts for the
\nRio-based show less than two weeks away, instead focusing on its
\nMMA-adjacent
\nfight card<\/a> in Yerevan, Armenia, at the end of March. Another
\nsubmission-only grappling bout between Tsarukyan and Colby
\nCovington<\/a> was linked to this event, but its mention has been
\nremoved from the Hype FC social media and only remains on the
\nticket-selling site. It is expected that some Pop MMA and
\nbare-knuckle matches will be sprinkled across the billing.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old Masvidal retired from MMA in 2023 after a decision
\nloss to Gilbert
\nBurns<\/a>, stretching his three-year losing streak to four in a
\nrow. He returned to combat sports the following year, facing
\nNate
\nDiaz<\/a> in a boxing match where he fell short by majority
\ndecision. \u201cGamebred\u201d floated his return to MMA, targeting the
\noft-discussed UFC White House event for June, but no plans have
\nmaterialized as of yet. The former backyard brawler with two
\nsubmission victories across his 35 pro wins will be competing in a
\nprofessional grappling match for the first time, one that will end
\nin a draw should no one land a submission.<\/p>\n

Magomedov made his Ultimate Fighting Championship<\/a> debut after
\nMasvidal hung up his gloves, and he went on to win his first four
\noutings with the Las Vegas-based promotion. He lost for the first
\ntime against Michael
\nPage<\/a> in February 2025, and bounced back with a triumph on the
\nscorecards over Marc-Andre
\nBarriault<\/a> five-plus months later.<\/p>\n
