Marshall faced Erik Silva<\/a>
\nin a featherweight matchup on the prelims at
\nUFC Mexico<\/a> on Saturday at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City,
\nMexico. Marshall justified his heavy favorite status by submitting
\nSilva with a rear-naked choke in the very first round. Marshall
\nrevealed that while he originally planned to spend some more time
\non his feet, his opponent\u2019s wild haymakers caught him off guad.
\nWhen Marshall heard his corner calling for a double leg, he didn\u2019t
\nhesitate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would have liked to stay on the feet a little bit more but he
\nwas throwing some wild stuff at me that I wasn\u2019t really expecting,\u201d
\nMarshall said in a post-fight interview with the
\nUFC<\/a>. \u201cSo safe bet, heard coach from the corner saying,
\n\u2018Jab-double leg.\u2019 Listened to what coach said, jab-double leg, and
\nfrom there I know my grappling is very high level. So I was just
\nable to secure the finish there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Singular Focus<\/h2>\n

Marshall (9-3) was previously juggling between fighting and working
\nas a fireman in Jersey City, New Jersey. \u201cFire\u201d has now quit his
\njob as a fireman and moved to Florida to train at
\nAmerican Top Team<\/a>. After coming up on the short side of a
\nhighly controversial decision against Mairon
\nSantos<\/a> last year, this victory over Silva comes as a relief for
\nMarshall.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really fulfilling to see that I changed my whole life
\naround,\u201d Marshall said. \u201cI had a great job working as a fireman in
\nJersey City. I quit that job, I moved to Florida, pursued fighting
\nfull-time, made that my life and my career. So I put everything
\ninto this and to get results like this \u2013 truly there\u2019s nothing
\nbetter.\u201d <\/p>\n

Marshall is now 3-3 in the UFC after making his debut in
\n2022. <\/p>\n
