Scheduled to face Ciryl Gane<\/a>
\nin the co-main event of the
\nUFC White House<\/a> card on June 14, Alex
\nPereira<\/a> received a tribute this past Sunday on one of Brazil’s
\nhighest-rated programs.<\/p>\n

During an appearance on “Domingao com Huck”<\/a> on TV Globo, \u201cPoatan\u201d was welcomed
\nby host Luciano Huck, who, through testimonials from family members
\nand videos of the most important fights of his career, recalled the
\nentire history of the Brazilian idol. This included his
\nimpoverished childhood, the loss of his murdered brother, his
\nbattle with alcoholism and working at the tire shop. There were
\ndozens of emotional testimonials from his children, brother,
\nmother, friends from the tire shop, manager Jorge Guimar\u00e3es and
\nchildren from his social project.<\/p>\n

But without a doubt, what moved \u201cPoatan\u201d the most were the words of
\nhis father, Antonio, who spoke about the pride he feels for his
\nson.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex, I don\u2019t even have words to talk about you,\u201d the father said.
\n\u201cYou know we\u2019re very shy, that sometimes we search for words of
\npraise and they don\u2019t come. But the heart speaks louder than the
\nmouth. Thank God I fulfilled my dream seeing you. It\u2019s very
\ndifficult for someone to have a son like you, and today I have you,
\nmy son\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

A Champion of Life<\/h2>\n

At the end of the video, Pereira wiped away tears, thanked the
\nprogram for the tribute and recalled everything he had experienced
\nto reach the top of the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very happy to be remembering everything that happened in my
\nlife,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2026 We went through difficulties, but thank God I
\nmanaged to overcome them\u2026 If today I wasn\u2019t a Glory champion or a
\nUFC champion, but a champion of life, that would already be very
\nimportant. Many people end up facing problems with drugs, alcohol
\nor depression \u2014and sport has been saving lives. Me becoming a
\nchampion of life, for me, would already be good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The nearly 12-minute tribute on one of TV Globo\u2019s highest-rated
\nprograms impressed sports fans. Since 2023, when Canal Combate (a
\nGlobo network pay channel) lost the rights to broadcast UFC, the
\npromotion has ceased to be reported on Globo news programs, and its
\nfighters have never again been invited to be part of the
\nprogramming of Globo\u2019s main entertainment programs and its other
\nchannels.<\/p>\n

The nearly 12-minute tribute to \u201cPoatan\u201d on one of the network’s
\nhighest-rated programs, just months after UFC arrived on Paramount,
\na direct competitor of Globoplay (Globo\u00b4s streaming), could signify
\neither a possible political shift at the network or simply an
\nunderstanding that in today’s world, where social media has a
\ngreater impact than open television, it’s better to acknowledge the
\ngreatness of stars who break through the sports bubble.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
