Jorge
\nMasvidal<\/a> doesn\u2019t think a matchup between Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a> and Ilia
\nTopuria<\/a> will be closely contested. <\/p>\n

According to Masvidal, a matchup between Makhachev and Topuria will
\nbe a lopsided affair \u2014 one way or another. Masvidal believes
\nMakhachev will either dominate Topuria on the ground or get knocked
\nout clean by \u201cEl Matador.\u201d While Masvidal considers Topuria faster
\nthan Makhachev, he believes that the Dagestani welterweight
\nchampion is ruthless on the ground. Masvidal also highlights
\nMakhachev\u2019s dominant welterweight title win over Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> at UFC 322<\/a>,
\nwhich he saw in person. Makhachev ragdolled Maddalena, whom
\n\u201cGamebred\u201d ranks among the best strikers in the sport with decent
\nwrestling defense.<\/p>\n

\u2018It Could Go Both Ways\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cThe way I see it, it\u2019s non-competitive, but it could go both
\nways,\u201d Masvidal said on the \u201dDeath Row MMA\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cI could see Islam taking him
\ndown and making his day very, very long at the office or Ilia
\ngetting in there, using his hands and catching him, because Ilia in
\nmy book is maybe two notches of speed above Makhachev, and the
\npower is unreal, it\u2019s incomparable. But Makhachev on the ground
\ndoesn\u2019t get tired, can submit you from anywhere, and is just so
\ndamn good at getting to your legs and making you work. Even if he
\ndoesn\u2019t take you down right in the beginning, he\u2019s taxing the F out
\nof your gas tank\u2026 I still think Jack is like the cream of the crop.
\nHis wrestling defense is not that bad, his striking is second to
\nnone, [Islam] played with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

A matchup between Makhachev (28-1) and Topuria (17-0) is arguably
\nthe most anticipated matchup by
\nUFC<\/a> fans today. According to rumors, the matchup was originally
\nplanned for the headliner at the
\nUFC White House<\/a> card in June. However, the UFC was allegedly
\ninformed at the last minute that Makhachev wouldn\u2019t fight. However,
\nDana White has denied the rumors. Interim lightweight champ
\nJustin
\nGaethje<\/a> will now challenge Topuria in a title unifier in the
\nmain event at the White House. <\/p>\n
