People were eagerly anticipating a potential matchup between
\nMakhachev (28-1) and Ilia
\nTopuria<\/a> (17-0) at the White House in June. However, it was
\nannounced earlier this month that Topuria will fight interim
\nlightweight champion Justin
\nGaethje<\/a> in a title unification bout at the
\nUFC White House<\/a> on June 14. White later briefly mentioned that
\nMakhachev has a hand injury, before clarifying that he isn\u2019t
\ncertain about it. <\/p>\n

However, Garry (17-1) doesn\u2019t think Makhachev is injured. Currently
\nrallying for a welterweight title shot, Garry believes the champion
\nis making excuses to avoid fighting. Garry doesn\u2019t think Makhachev
\ncould have suffered an injury in his dominant title win over
\nJack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> last year. \u201cThe Future\u201d jokes that Makhachev
\nmight have injured himself while horse riding, taking a jab at the
\nDagestani\u2019s frequent horse riding videos. Garry believes Makhachev
\nis doing what most fighters do after becoming champions \u2013 keep the
\ntitle without fighting.<\/p>\n

\u2018I Don\u2019t Know What to Believe\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cI heard [about the hand injury] too. But I don\u2019t believe it,\u201d
\nGarry said on Instagram. \u201cI don\u2019t know what to believe. I can\u2019t
\nimagine he hurt his hand in the last fight with Jack \u2014 maybe he did
\nit in horse riding? I don\u2019t believe it. I think it\u2019s just excuses.
\nEverything about him now tells me he doesn\u2019t want to fight, he
\ndoesn\u2019t want to fight. Mentally, physically, whatever it is\u2026 He\u2019s
\ndoing the typical thing that all champions do when they get the
\nbelt. They try to maintain that position and maintain relevancy by
\nnot fighting and staying inactive. When I fight, that all
\nchanges.\u201d <\/p>\n

While rumors suggest that Makhachev vs Topuria was originally
\nplanned for the White House, White refutes them. Meanwhile, Garry
\nand Michael
\nMorales<\/a> (19-0) are considered frontrunners for the next
\nwelterweight title shot against Makhachev. The undefeated
\nEcuadorian recently claimed to have beaten Garry in the race for
\nthe next gold bid. <\/p>\n
