Before today, rumor had it that Death once had a near-Chuck Norris
\nexperience.<\/p>\n

Famed martial arts black belt and former Air Force Airman first
\nclass Norris was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday, where he was
\ntreated for an unknown medical emergency. TMZ<\/a>
\nstated that Norris was still conscious at the time and that he was
\nreportedly in \u201cgood spirits.\u201d A day earlier, Norris was working out
\non the island of Kaua\u2019i in Hawaii, where a friend of his said he
\nwas joking around and having a good time. He had even posted a
\nvideo on Instagram<\/a> days
\nbefore, showing the 86-year-old hitting pads on his birthday.<\/p>\n

In his final
\nvideo<\/a>, Norris riffed, \u201cI don\u2019t age. I level up.\u201d He continued,
\nwriting, \u201cI\u2019m 86 today! Nothing like some playful action on a sunny
\nday to make you feel young. I\u2019m grateful for another year, good
\nhealth and the chance to keep doing what I love. Thank you for all
\nbeing the best fans in the world. Your support through the years
\nhas meant more to me than you\u2019ll ever know. God bless, Chuck
\nNorris.\u201d<\/p>\n

As first reported by TMZ<\/a> on
\nFriday, Norris died suddenly on Thursday for currently undisclosed
\nreasons. The Oklahoman born Carlos Ray Norris earned a variety of
\nblack belts in multiple disciplines over the years, even creating
\nhis own style called American tang soo do, combining the teachings
\nof Korean tang soo do with karate and judo. Among his many
\ndistinctions include an 8th degree black belt in taekwondo, a 9th
\ndegree black belt in tang soo do, a 5th degree black belt in at
\nleast one discipline of karate and a black belt in judo. He also
\ntrained under the Machado brothers, earning his third-degree black
\nbelt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.<\/p>\n

Chuck Norris doesn\u2019t sleep. He waits.<\/h2>\n

The actor, fighter, author and beyond founded a second style called
\nthe \u201cChuck Norris System,\u201d or Chun Kuk Do, which evolved out of his
\nprevious combat training in the military and with traditional
\nmartial arts. His contributions to martial arts worldwide led to
\nhis induction in the inaugural class of the Martial Arts History
\nMuseum\u2019s Hall of Fame in 1990. While record keeping in these areas
\nwas notoriously spotty, the karateka was suggested to have
\ncelebrated a pro record of 183-10-2 across all matches under
\nkickboxing, karate or other related rulesets. He also celebrated
\nsix world titles, although the status of those organizations is
\nunknown.<\/p>\n

As his legend grew, Norris helped create a kickboxing league called
\nWorld Combat League, where the fighters fought in a sloped pit
\nwearing gi pants, gloves and shin protectors. It was a
\nstriking-only discipline with no takedowns or throwing permitting,
\nand very limited clinching or grappling allowed. Two teams competed
\nagainst one another, with their teams sending out one
\nrepresentative against another\u2019s. While it only operated for two
\nyears, a number of future elite athletes competed under its banner,
\nincluding Stephen
\nThompson<\/a>, Uriah Hall<\/a>,
\nPat
\nBarry<\/a> and Raymond
\nDaniels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Freddy Krueger has nightmares about Chuck Norris<\/h2>\n

The past \u201cFighter of the Year\u201d for the vaunted Black Belt magazine
\nused his training to put himself on the radar of Hollywood, where
\nhe made his film debut in 1968 as an extra in the Dean Martin spy
\ncomedy \u201cThe Wrecking Crew.\u201d Four years later, he established
\nhimself as a tour de force by playing the character Colt in Bruce
\nLee\u2019s \u201cThe Way of the Dragon.\u201d He and Lee duked it out in the
\nlegendary final battle, where, uncharacteristic for Norris, he
\nended up losing when Lee\u2019s character broke Norris\u2019 neck.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Way of the Dragon\u201d opened many doors for Norris as an action
\nmovie persona, as he began to claim the marquee spot in roles of
\nfilms like \u201cBreaker! Breaker!\u201d and \u201cA Force of One.\u201d His character
\narchetypes served as the unbreakable protagonist that could thwart
\nthe plans of warlords and other ne\u2019er-do-wells while racking up
\nmassive body counts. After his chief performance in \u201cLone Wolf
\nMcQuade,\u201d film studios started building franchises around Norris,
\nplacing him in film series like \u201cMissing in Action\u201d and \u201cThe Delta
\nForce.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the 1980s, Norris served as an unstoppable force in the same
\nvein of fellow martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme and other
\naction greats like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
\nHis film career began to transition to television in the 1990s, as
\nhis legend grew to oft-times comedic levels that spurred a myriad
\nof \u201cChuck Norris jokes\u201d like \u201cChuck Norris is the reason why Waldo
\nis always hiding\u201d and \u201cChuck Norris can divide by zero.\u201d He notably
\nplayed himself in the comedy martial arts picture \u201cSidekicks\u201d where
\nhe trained an ill young boy to achieve great heights a la \u201cThe
\nKarate Kid\u201d while squaring off against comedian-turned-bodybuilder
\nJoe Piscopo. He kept himself in the spotlight thanks to over 200
\nepisodes of the renowned action crime series \u201cWalker, Texas
\nRanger,\u201d where he served as an upstanding law enforcement officer
\nthat allowed him to fully showcase his martial arts prowess.<\/p>\n

Film appearances largely dried up for Norris after a few
\ndirect-to-video features released, with the martial arts aficionado
\nrelegating himself to notable, beloved cameos in films like
\n\u201cDodgeball: A True Underdog Story\u201d and \u201cThe Expendables 2.\u201d In the
\nlatter, the self-aware Norris actually riffed on one of his own
\njokes. His character stated that he was bitted by a cobra, and
\nafter five days of agonizing pain, the cobra died.<\/p>\n

Chuck Norris once won an arm-wrestling contest with both arms
\ntied behind his back<\/h2>\n

Following his death, an outpouring of memorials and support came
\nfrom friends and fellow actors.<\/p>\n

\u201cChuck Norris is the champ,\u201d Dolph Lundgren penned<\/a> about his
\nfallen friend. \u201cEver since I was a young martial artist and later
\ngetting into movies, I always looked up to him as a role model.
\nSomeone who had the respect, humility and strength it takes to be a
\nman. We will miss you, my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a great time working with Chuck,\u201d wrote<\/a> Stallone. \u201cHe
\nwas All American in every way. Great man and my condolences to his
\nwonderful family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Damme weighed in as well, writing<\/a>, \u201cDeepest
\ncondolences on the passing of my friend, Chuck Norris. We knew each
\nother from my early days, and I always respected the man he was. My
\nheart and prayers are with his family. He will never be
\nforgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust heard that the Legend \u2013 The Man \u2013 Mr. Chuck Norris has passed
\naway,\u201d Piscopo stated<\/a> about his
\nformer co-star. \u201cI was honored to work with Chuck. It was a life
\nchanging and treasured experience that I will hold dearly in my
\nheart forever. Sending love, respect and heartfelt condolences to
\nthe Norris Family. Rest In Peace, Good Sir.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had the honor of meeting Chuck back in 2006 at the World Combat
\nLeague something he built from the ground up,\u201d former WCL fighter
\nHall weighed

\nRanger’…that wasn’t just a show to me. That was inspiration. That
\nwas a standard. A man who stood for something discipline, respect,
\ndoing what’s right even when it’s hard. Chuck Norris embodied what
\nit meant to be a man in an era that didn’t cut corners. And whether
\nhe knew it or not, he inspired so many of us to carry ourselves a
\ncertain way. We lost one of the last OGs. A true legend. God bless
\nyou. Rest easy. Because men like you…never really die.”<\/p>\n

Chuck Norris can unscramble an egg<\/h2>\n

Norris\u2019 family provided a statement<\/a> on his
\nsocial media page announcing his death and celebrating his life,
\nwhile thanking those around the world that loved him and his
\nwork.<\/p>\n

Their statement reads in its entirety:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden
\npassing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we
\nwould like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he
\nwas surrounded by his family and was at peace.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cTo the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of
\nstrength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and
\ngrandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our
\nfamily.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering
\ncommitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline,
\nand kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a
\nlasting impact on so many lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life
\nhe lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share
\nwith him. The love and support he received from fans around the
\nworld meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for
\nit. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know many of you had heard about his recent hospitalization,
