\nSanchez<\/a> has not received jail time for his offenses last
\nyear.<\/p>\n

In July 2025, Sanchez was
\narrested<\/a> for firing a pistol out of his window while riding
\npast an automobile accident on an Albuquerque, New Mexico, highway.
\nThe arrest reports verified the weapon in question and identified
\nrecently spent bullet casings, while the driver, friend Derrick
\nMontoya, admitted to the arresting officer that Sanchez had
\ndischarged his weapon and laughed about it.<\/p>\n

The prosecutors
\nsought a sentence<\/a> of two years in prison based on the
\nfourth-degree felony charge of discharging a firearm at or from a
\nmotor vehicle. He was also charged with a misdemeanor of negligent
\nuse of a deadly weapon, but per
\nMMAJunkie<\/a>, the latter was dismissed when Sanchez agreed to a
\nguilty plea for the former.<\/p>\n

The price I have to pay<\/h2>\n

Per local outlet
\nKRQE<\/a>, Sanchez was ultimately sentenced with five years of
\nsupervised probation, while he also will be required to complete
\n800 hours of community service. As he took a plea agreement, there
\nis no plan on an appeal. Instead, the longtime fighter took
\nresponsibility for his actions, saying so in a pair of statements
\nfollowing the sentencing hearing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a foolish decision,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cI look back on it, and
\nI own it, and I take responsibility for it, and now I won\u2019t be able
\nto have guns no more, and that\u2019s the price I have to pay for my
\nwrong decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

He
\ncontinued<\/a>, \u201cAll I can do is take accountability, own it, and
\nspread positivity to the youth and the next generation to change
\nthese ways. Not to be shooting out windows like cowboys.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanchez exploded onto the scene as an undefeated welterweight,
\nwinning his first 11 matches including a triumph over Jorge
\nSantiago<\/a>, when he appeared on the first season of \u201cThe Ultimate
\nFighter\u201d in 2005. \u201cThe Nightmare\u201d won out the middleweight bracket
\nof the show, tapping Alex
\nKaralexis<\/a> and Josh
\nRafferty<\/a> before claiming a decision against Josh
\nKoscheck<\/a> to reach the finals. A quick rear-naked choke of
\nKenny
\nFlorian<\/a> awarded him the vaunted six-figure contract and trophy
\nfrom the UFC brass.<\/p>\n

The New Mexico native went on to move down to lightweight, where he
\npicked up a number of post-fight bonuses and challenge B.J. Penn<\/a> for the
\n155-pound strap in 2009. Sanchez ultimately succumbed to a doctor
\nstoppage in the fifth frame. The bonus magnet bounced around
\ndivisions, even going as far down as featherweight on one occasion,
\nand ended up departing the Las Vegas-based promotion in 2020. The
\n44-year-old briefly stopped off at Eagle FC in 2022, tested his
\nmettle in bare-knuckle boxing the year after and was linked to a
\nboxing match with John
\nMakdessi<\/a> in 2025.<\/p>\n
