Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> believes he should have been more aggressive
\nagainst Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Maddalena put his welterweight title on the line for the first time
\nagainst Makhachev at UFC 322<\/a>
\nlast November. While it was one of the most anticipated matchups in
\nthe
\nUFC<\/a>, the fight turned out to be lopsided. Makhachev dominated
\nMaddalena on the ground for five rounds to earn a unanimous
\ndecision win. <\/p>\n

Reflecting on his loss, Maddalena admits that he should have been
\nmore active on the ground. The Australian also believes he should
\nhave been aggressive instead of focusing on his defense.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo excuses. He was the better man\u2026 Obviously, what went wrong was
\nbeing stuck on my back for 25 minutes,\u201d he told Australian MMA<\/a>. \u201cHonestly, it was a bit of laziness, a
\nbit of opportunities I didn’t pounce on. I should’ve been more
\naggressive, not so defensively minded.\u201d<\/p>\n

No Poker Face<\/h2>\n

Maddalena appeared to be at his wits end in the latter rounds
\nagainst Makhachev. While Maddalena\u2019s coach told him to wipe the
\n\u201csorry look off\u201d his face, commentator Joe Rogan said he felt sorry
\nfor the former champ. Maddalena admits that the infamous look on
\nhis face was of sheer disappointment. While Maddalena usually has a
\ngood poker face, it failed to work against Makhachev.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just a bit of disappointment not being able to do what I
\nwanted to do,\u201d he said. \u201cKnowing that I was having a poor
\nperformance. Not good enough on my part. The poker face was not on
\nthat night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maddalena (18-3) is now scheduled to headline UFC Perth<\/a>
\nagainst Carlos
\nPrates<\/a> (23-7) in front of his home fans at the RAC Arena in
\nPerth, Australia. Maddalena was undefeated in 18 straight bouts,
\nincluding 8 in the UFC, before losing to Makhachev. Meanwhile,
\nPrates has finished all six of his UFC wins so far, while only
\nlosing to top contender Ian
\nGarry<\/a>.  <\/p>\n
