It\u2019s hard to blame Maycee
\nBarber<\/a> for avoiding social media following her brutal knockout loss<\/a> to Alexa
\nGrasso<\/a> at
\nUFC Seattle<\/a>this past Saturday.<\/p>\n

Grasso sat Barber down with a laser-like straight left, spinning
\nher opponent around in the process. She landed one more quick shot
\nto the chin before deftly locking in a rear-naked choke on Barber,
\nwho was already out. After the bout was halted, Barber lay
\nmotionless on the canvas for several minutes before leaving the
\nOctagon under her own power. The official result of the fight was a
\nknockout, because it was determined that Barber was unconscious
\nonce the submission was applied.<\/p>\n

While her team initially took to social media to provide an
\n
\nupdate<\/a> on the fighter\u2019s condition, Barber would later issue her
\nown video statement via Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell this is not the post or video that I wanted to be making
\ntoday,\u201d Barber said. \u201cBut I wanted to come on here and say thank
\nyou to the UFC and thank you to Alexa for the opportunity. I wanted
\nto go out there and get my opportunity to get my rematch and
\ndominate and get the win back and unfortunately, it was not my
\nnight. I got caught and Alexa did an amazing thing. She\u2019s a
\nphenomenal fighter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really remember a whole lot. All I know is every time I go
\non social media I look like I\u2019m dead and that\u2019s not a very fun
\nthing to see. So I\u2019ve been trying to stay off social media but I
\nalso wanted to come on here and tell you guys that I am OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grasso defeated Barber via unanimous decision in their first
\nmeeting at UFC 258 in February 2021. \u201cThe Future\u201d had compiled a
\nseven-bout
\nUFC<\/a> winning streak since that defeat, raising expectations that
\nshe could be on the verge of securing a flyweight title shot.
\nInstead, Barber suffered a scary KO defeat that left most observers
\nmore concerned for her health than her standing in the 125-pound
\ndivision.<\/p>\n

\u2018I Will Be Back\u2019<\/h2>\n

Though the end result was not what she planned, Barber was still
\ngrateful to be able to get a chance to run it back against Grasso
\nat UFC Seattle.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very blessed to live the life that I do,\u201d Barber said. \u201cAs
\ntough as it is, going out there and being able to do what I did
\nlast night was still one of the greatest nights of my life. Despite
\nall of that, that\u2019s still one of the better nights of my life that
\nI\u2019ve ever had. I\u2019ve had some pretty tough days so that was still
\none of the greatest days of my life. Being able to walk out there
\nand being able to do what I\u2019ve done.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be back. I\u2019m going to heal up and put in the work and get
\nback out there. I\u2019m very thankful to everyone who has supported me,
\neveryone who has watched me grow, watched me win, watched me lose,
\nwatched me fall and who\u2019s going to watch me win again. Thank you
\nguys all for the love and support and I will be back.\u201d<\/p>\n
