Arman
\nTsarukyan<\/a> wants upcoming lightweights to get a chance against
\nperennial top contenders. <\/p>\n

Tsarukyan says the Top 5 of the
\nUFC<\/a> lightweight division is an exclusive club, where they
\nrepeatedly fight each other. \u201cAhalkalakets\u201d wants the lower ranked
\nfighters to get a chance against the old timers, for some new
\ncontenders in the division.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know why they give these old guys chances \u2013 Gaethje,
\nOliveira,\u201d Tsarukyan said on \u201cThe Ariel Helwani Show.\u201d \u201cI wouldn\u2019t
\nbe surprised if Oliveira fights for the title again\u2026 We need new
\nnames. New names coming up \u2013 give them chance. For example, someone
\nwho just got to top 10, Top 15, give them a chance with Top 5 and
\nmaybe switch the names.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Old Guard<\/h2>\n

Tsarukyan\u2019s claims certainly hold some weight. Perennial contenders
\nlike Justin
\nGaethje<\/a> and Charles
\nOliveira<\/a> have been ruling the top of the lightweight division.
\nGaethje has made two unsuccessful title bids, become the interim
\nchampion twice, and is now set to make a third title bid against
\nIlia
\nTopuria<\/a> at Freedom Fights 250 on June 14 at the White House.
\nMeanwhile, \u201cDo Bronx\u201d has won the title once, lost it, made an
\nunsuccessful bid against Topuria, and recently won the BMF title
\nagainst Max
\nHolloway<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While Holloway moved up from the featherweight division, his elite
\nstatus translated to the lightweight division as well. Meanwhile,
\nthe recently retired Dustin
\nPoirier<\/a> was another such contender, who made three failed title
\nbids. However, the old timers have not been ruling the top tier of
\nthe division without reason. These contenders have only lost to
\neach other, or the reigning champion, while repeatedly thwarting
\nthe attempts of up-and-comers to achieve contender status. While
\nPoirier shut down Benoit St.
\nDenis<\/a>, Oliveira stopped Mateusz
\nGamrot<\/a>, and Gaethje won the interim title against Paddy
\nPimblett<\/a>. <\/p>\n
