\nDana White’s Contender Series<\/a>, earning a contract in his second
\nappearance after suffering an elbow injury in his initial outing.
\nThat prompted the UFC CEO to urge other UFC hopefuls to “Be
\nJoe Pyfer.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

After defeating Israel
\nAdesanya<\/a> via second-round technical knockout in the
\nUFC Seattle<\/a> headliner this past Saturday, Pyfer has designs on
\nchanging the perception of what the actually means.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in a really good spot mentally,\u201d Pyfer said at Saturday\u2019s
\npost-fight press conference. \u201cThe \u2018Be Joe Pyfer,\u2019 who I was as a
\nperson is dead, but the \u2018Be Joe Pyfer,\u2019 thing will live on in a
\nmuch greater way now, where people can be inspired by it, and it
\nactually means something. So, I\u2019m proud of who I am now. \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, yeah, \u2018Be Joe Pyfer\u2019 will still be a thing, it\u2019s just got a
\ndifferent meaning now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leading up to UFC Seattle, Pyfer
\ncredited<\/a> his newfound faith and his longtime girlfriend for
\nbringout about a change in his overall philosophy. However, a more
\nstartling revelation occurred in the moments after his triumph over
\nAdesanya, when Pyfer revealed that he nearly took his own life a
\ncouple weeks prior to the fight.<\/p>\n

Pyfer went into a little more detail when explaining the meaning
\nbehind those remarks at the UFC Seattle presser.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said it all week, and I think a lot of people kind of dismissed
\nit as I wasn\u2019t going to be able to go in there and still have this
\ntenacity about me or this mean streak about me. I was born a
\nfighter. I was born into chaos and a messed-up family, as many
\nchildren are. It\u2019s not like mine\u2019s super special compared to
\nanybody else\u2019s,\u201d Pyfer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut yeah, I was a victim of my own self-destruction. I had lust
\nissues; I had just this toxic cycle of coping. Nothing drug-related
\nor anything like that, but I had a dream where I was disgusted
\nabout who I was, I broke a lot of people\u2019s hearts around me,
\nparticularly one person that I never will hurt again, and s\u2014t, I
\nwas just disgusted with myself.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I went and got therapy. In this dream, I feel like God chose
\nme and took my hand, gave me a restored life, a renewed life. The
\nonly thing I can say is I feel like all the pressure of the world
\nis gone, all the expectations of the world [are] gone, and I feel
\nlike a true, free person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Change is Possible<\/h2>\n

As a result, Pyfer felt like a new man during fight week. That
\nallowed him to \u201cBe Joe Pyfer\u201d \u2014 just in a different way.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis whole week has been beautiful with my team, the support, and
\nmy coaches,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s just showing them that you can change,
\nand you can be a better man, and God is real. Jesus is real. There
\nare certain ways you are called to live, and those are the ways
\nthat I’ve followed and through my prayer, I was granted this
\nvictory. Because let me tell you: I’ve prayed probably 50 times
\nthis week. I was the most calm, happy, peaceful, appreciative
