It appears the beef between Ultimate Fighting Championship<\/a> former stars
\nColby
\nCovington<\/a> and Jorge
\nMasvidal<\/a> is far from squashed.<\/p>\n

On March 21, 2022, a few weeks after the two collided atop UFC 272,
\nMasvidal
\nattacked<\/a> Covington outside of a restaurant in Miami. Covington
\nstated that he chipped a tooth, while he also claimed his expensive
\nwatch was damaged in the assault. \u201cGamebred\u201d was ultimately charged
\nwith a few felonies, and they were reduced to a misdemeanor battery
\ncharge when he took a plea deal. Masvidal was sentenced to two days
\nin jail\u2014not prison\u2014and fined almost $1,000 in fees and costs.<\/p>\n

As first reported<\/a>
\nby Fox Sports South Florida talk show host Andy Slater on
\nWednesday, Covington is suing Masvidal for damages upwards of or in
\nexcess of $50K sustained in the attack. Per the
\ncivil complaint<\/a> filed on March 23, 2026, Covington claims that
\nhe suffered the following: \u201cbodily injury and resulting pain and
\nsuffering; disability; disfigurement; physical impairment; mental
\nanguish; loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life; expense of
\nhospitalization; medical and nursing care and treatment; loss of
\nearnings; loss of ability to earn money; and aggravation of a
\npreviously existing condition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Permanent or continuing<\/h2>\n

Covington alleged in his complaint that these aforementioned
\ndamages were permanent or will continue to plague him for the rest
\nof his life. Additionally, he suggests that this attack will
\nfurther impact his future earning capacity. The complaint does not
\nreveal the specific injuries he is purporting to have sustained. He
\nhas called for a jury trial to seek \u201call allowable damages.\u201d There
\nis no court date set as of yet.<\/p>\n

There will be an early question looming regarding the timeliness of
\nthe suit. Per
\nsection 95.11(3)(n) of the Florida Statutes<\/a>, Florida\u2019s statute
\nof limitations regarding \u201can action for assault, battery, false
\narrest\u201d and a number of other intentional torts is four years. If
\nthe tolling of the tort\u2014a civil wrongful act that injures
\nsomeone\u2014of battery commenced on the day of the attack itself,
\nCovington\u2019s claim would be time-barred by a few days as an
\naffirmative defense. Should it be effective Masvidal\u2019s guilty plea
\nor sentencing, it would be permissible on that specific ground.<\/p>\n
