After a four and a half-year stint in the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> and two appearances in the
\n
\nProfessional Fighters League<\/a>, Rodrigo
\nNascimento<\/a> wants to hit the reset button against a familiar
\nface in the PFL.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Brazilian will rematch Alexander
\nRomanov<\/a> when their heavyweight prelim buoys the
\nPFL Chicago<\/a> undercard this Saturday at Wintrust Arena.
\nNascimento was cut by the UFC after he lost a unanimous decision to
\nthe hulking Moldovan in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe learned a lot from that,\u201d he told Sherdog.com. \u201cWe\u2019re always
\nlearning and innovating. After I left the UFC, I came to understand
\nthat being an athlete wasn\u2019t only about fighting in the UFC\u2019s
\nOctagon. Being an athlete requires interactions with the public and
\nfinding other means to stay in touch with the fans. Now, I\u2019m always
\nposting videos and having live sessions. I\u2019m learning to sell
\nmyself better and to have more fan connections. Of course, I gained
\nmuch experience in the UFC. There\u2019s nothing like it. I doubt a
\nbetter promotion will ever exist. The main thing I gained from them
\nwas experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nascimento owns a 1-1 record in the PFL, with a win over Abraham
\nBably<\/a> and a loss to Oleg Popov<\/a>.
\nHe was originally scheduled to face Slim
\nTrabelsi<\/a> before the Tunisian\u2019s withdrawal cleared the way for a
\nsecond encounter with Romanov. Nascimento finds motivation in the
\nunexpected chance to even the score with the 2025 PFL heavyweight
\ntournament finalist.<\/p>\n

\u2018I have all the weapons\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cThis will be a rematch for us,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m sure I\u2019ll be able to
\nshow a different Rodrigo Nascimento. I\u2019ll show that I\u2019m now
\nstronger and more dedicated. Romanov is tough, but I have all the
\nweapons necessary to beat him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nascimento did not hold back when asked how he felt about
\nTrabelsi.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as Slim [goes], I did train with him a few times here at
\n
\nAmerican Top Team<\/a>,\u201d he said, \u201cbut to tell the truth, I don\u2019t
\nreally like him. No one likes him. He\u2019s weird. I\u2019m not sure how
\nelse to say it. We wrestled together. He\u2019s a good wrestler, but
\nit\u2019s nothing I haven\u2019t seen before.\u201d<\/p>\n

By the time Nascimento climbs into the cage to meet Romanov, he
\nwill have been away from action for 288 days. That time was not
\nwasted. Nascimento understands the challenge in front of him and
\nremains confident in his preparation at ATT.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone was a big help,\u201d he said. \u201cOur plan is to get ready to
\nwrestle. I\u2019ll defend takedowns and go for my own takedowns whenever
\npossible. Guys who are mainly wrestlers don\u2019t have jiu-jitsu
\nskills. I even submitted Slim a few times. I\u2019m confident that if we
\nend up fighting, I will submit him. I feel that fighting Romanov is
\nthe same thing. I can knock him out, or I can submit him. He\u2019s a
\ngood wrestler, but my jiu-jitsu and striking are much better.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the opportunity to reverse his fortunes nearly at hand,
\nNascimento embraces the idea of wowing the promotion and the fans
\nat Romanov\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m feeling well, happy and strong,\u201d he said. \u201cThis will be yet
