\nUFC 297, the 34-year-old Canadian faded badly in the waning moments

\nlearning experience for Malott.<\/p>\n
\none and I grew a lot from it, learned to humble myself in certain
\nways,\u201d Malott told UFC.com<\/a>. \u201cI know I\u2019m an elite-level fighter,
\nbut recognizing that \u2018Hey man \u2014 sometimes you\u2019re fighting the best
\nguys in the world and you don\u2019t need to force a finish\u2019 [is really
\nimportant]. I didn\u2019t need to force a finish in that fight; I could
\nhave coasted to a decision and won, and looking back, that\u2019s one of
\nthe things I changed\u2026 People love to bring that fight up, and
\nrightfully so \u2014 that was the one fight that I showed some areas
\nthat needed growth \u2014 but I think when you zoom out and look at my
\ncareer, I had a bad minute in that fight, and outside of that, I\u2019ve
\nfought really well my entire UFC career. Every other fight, I\u2019ve
\nclearly won, either by stoppage or a very clear decision, and then
\nI dominated that fight, other than the last minute.<\/p>\n

\ndifficult competition during his promotional tenure. That, in turn,
\nallowed him to gain more Octagon experience by going the distance

\nHolland<\/a>.<\/p>\nGaining Valuable Experience<\/h2>\n
\nUFC fights, including Contender Series \u2014 four really tough guys,
\nmostly Contender Series-style guys and then Mickey
\nGall<\/a>, and ran through those guys,\u201d Malott said. \u201cThe last four
\nthat I\u2019ve fought, I\u2019ve still had really good performances, but
\nthese guys aren\u2019t Contender Series guys who might be able to hang
\nin the UFC; these are guys with tons of experience and are smashing
\nthose guys who might be able to make it.<\/p>\n

\nRadtke<\/a>) is gonna whoop somebody\u2019s ass. Those four are on a
\ncompletely different level, and I think something to note too with
\nthe growth \u2014 and we\u2019ve talked about this before \u2014 but we got back
\nto that Neil Magny<\/a>
\nfight and my experience in the UFC and fighting in the last seven
\nyears before that was 15 minutes of cage time\u2026 Now, including that
\nUFC 297 fight, went to the end of the third there, then went to a
\ndecision my next fight, second round knocked out against \u2018Chuck
\nBuffalo,\u2019 and then went the distance against Holland. The amount of
\nexperience I\u2019ve gotten relative to the amount of experience I had
\nbefore is like I\u2019ve tripled my fight time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\ngoal is to finish fights. For the most part he\u2019s done that: Of his
\n13 professional wins, 11 have come inside the distance. Those two
\ndecision wins \u2014 over Holland and Giles \u2014 have occurred within the
\nlast two years.<\/p>\n
\nfinishing ability, and I still have a very high finishing
\npercentage,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I\u2019m in there \u2014 I didn\u2019t finish Holland
\nlast time, but when I\u2019m throwing punches, I\u2019m not throwing little
\ntic-tac-toe punches; I\u2019m trying to put a hole in this guy\u2019s head
\nand he\u2019s a slick, slippery vet who knows how to stay safe\u2026 You
\ngrow, you move up the rankings against better and better guys who
\nhave experience against better guys, and sometimes you have to just
\ntake what\u2019s in front of you rather than just forcing things.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nis nonetheless Malott\u2019s most accomplished foe to date. The Team
\nAlpha Male product is confident he has done everything necessary to
\nprepare for the Brazilian veteran.<\/p>\n
\nthe most prepared I\u2019ve ever been,\u201d he said. \u201cThat mixed with the
\nfact that I know I\u2019m gonna give it everything I\u2019ve got when I get
\nin there is a really reassuring feeling. I feel ready. I\u2019ve done
\neverything that I need to do, I have everything that I need to have
\nfor this fight; I\u2019m looking forward to actually getting in
\nthere.\u201d<\/p>\n
