Sean
\nStrickland<\/a>\u2019s longtime coach, Eric Nicksick, recently reflected
\non their brief falling out last year. <\/p>\n

Strickland looked to reclaim his middleweight title in a rematch
\nagainst Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a> at UFC 312 in February 2025. Strickland dropped a
\nlopsided unanimous decision against the champion. Nicksick
\nseemingly just failed to get his fighter going despite his best
\nefforts.  The
\nXtreme Couture<\/a> coach subsequently lashed out at Strickland
\npublicly, calling the performance \u201cunderwhelming.\u201d Strickland
\nresponded, saying Nicksick would most likely not remain his coach
\nany longer. However, they buried the hatchet soon after, and
\nStrickland still continues to train under the tutelage of Nicksick
\nat Xtreme Couture. <\/p>\n

Reflecting on the brief spat, Nicksick recently admitted that he
\ndeserves criticism. Nicksick revealed that he was also dealing with
\na lot in his personal life, which, added to Strickland\u2019s
\nperformance, made him lash out at the former middleweight champion.
\nNicksick doesn\u2019t regret what he said as he believes he was accurate
\nwith his analysis. However, Nicksick regrets voicing his harsh
\nopinion about his fighter publicly. Nicksick claims he and
\nStrickland had sorted their differences within days of the public
\nrift.<\/p>\n

It Made Me a Better Person<\/h2>\n

\u201cI think that that criticism was just,\u201d Nicksick told MMAjunkie.com<\/a>. \u201cOn a personal level I was going
\nthrough a lot in my life, my dad was battling prostate cancer, my
\ndaughter was doing all these competitions, so I was missing a lot
\nof stuff at home. So that added stress to me as a coach, but also
\nunderwhelming performance and knowing Sean was injured and all
\nthese things. I took it out on a platform that I shouldn\u2019t have\u2026 I
\ndon\u2019t regret what I said, because what I said was spot on. I regret
\nthe platform that I said it on. But I learned a lot from that\u2026 In
\nretrospect, looking back at it, I am glad it happened. It made me a
\nbetter person because of me. Sean and me were literally fine a week
\nor two after.\u201d <\/p>\n

Nicksick has since guided Strickland (30-7) to an upset win over
\nAnthony
\nHernandez<\/a> via stoppage at
\nUFC Houston<\/a> this past February. Strickland is now set to
\nchallenge Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a> (15-0) for the middleweight title in the main event at
\nUFC
\n328<\/a> on May 9 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New
\nJersey. <\/p>\n
