Masvidal\u2019s (37-15) flying knee knockout of Ben Askren<\/a>
\n(19-2) in 2019 will always be one of the most unforgettable moments
\nin
\nUFC<\/a> history. Masvidal\u2019s American Top Team teammate, Dustin
\nPoirier<\/a>, recently revealed that \u201cGamebred\u201d told him before the
\nfight that he would start with a flying knee.

\neven showed Poirier videos of Masvidal drilling the flying knee.
\n\u201cThe Diamond\u201d shared the prediction with one of his friends, who
\nwas amazed when it came to fruition.<\/p>\n

Calling His Shot<\/h2>\n

\u201cI met up with you and Brown the night before the fight,\u201d Poirier
\nsaid on Deep Waters<\/a>. \u201cAnd you were telling me, \u2018Imma start
\nthis fight off with a flying knee.\u2019 Mike is showing me videos of
\nhim doing that in the training room. He was hitting the pad,
\nthrowing the flying knee. I text one of my boys, I said, \u2018Hey, he’s
\ngonna start this with a flying knee. Boom! Five minutes later my
\nbuddy is texting me, \u2018You called it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Askren was traded to the UFC as an undefeated former ONE
\nChampionship<\/a> and Bellator
\nMMA<\/a> champion. After a submission win over Robbie Lawler in his
\nUFC debut, Askren was matched up with Masvidal, who was coming off
\nan upset win over then highly touted prospect Darren Till<\/a>.
\nMasvidal lackadaisically stood with his hands behind his back
\nbefore the opening bell. Both parties charged at the center as soon
\nas the bell rang. As Askren immediately shot for a double leg,
\nMasvidal knocked him out cold with a perfect flying knee in 5
\nseconds, which still remains the fastest knockout in UFC history.
\nMasvidal\u2019s stardom soared overnight and \u201cGamebred\u201d went on to earn
\nconsecutive title shots after a victory over Nate Diaz<\/a>.
\nMeanwhile, Askren hung up his gloves following another loss against
\nDemian
\nMaia<\/a>. <\/p>\n
