Youssef
\nZalal<\/a> is confident he will break one of Charles Olveira\u2019s many
\nrecords by the time he retires. <\/p>\n

Zalal is scheduled to fight Aljamain
\nSterling<\/a> in a featherweight tilt in the main event at
\nUFC Fight Night 274<\/a> on April 25 at the Apex in Las Vegas. Zalal
\nrevealed that he would prefer a submission win over a knockout win
\nagainst Sterling. Zalal explains that he is close to Charles
\nOliveira<\/a>\u2019s record of the most submissions in
\nUFC<\/a> featherweight history. Zalal also wants to be the first
\nperson to submit Aljamain
\nSterling<\/a>, whose only two stoppage losses have come via
\nknockouts.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Oliveira] still has the featherweight\u2019s most submissions,\u201d Zalal
\ntold MMAjunkie.com<\/a>. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Damn, I see my
\nname right there. Two more Youssef, you get tie.\u2019 Nobody ever
\nsubmitted Aljamain in his whole career\u2026 So, I think if I had to
\npick, I would pick that sub.\u201d <\/p>\n

Closing In on History<\/h2>\n

Oliveira holds the record for the most submissions in UFC
\nfeatherweight history (six) despite having not competed in the
\ndivision for over a decade. The only active UFC fighters in the
\nsecond spot with four submissions each are Zalal, Brian
\nOrtega<\/a>, and Makwan
\nAmirkhani<\/a>. A submission win over Sterling will push Zalal ahead
\nof Ortega and Amirkhani, right behind Oliveira. Considering
\nOliveira is unlikely to compete at featherweight again, Zalal is
\nconfident that he will break \u201cDo Bronx\u2019s\u201d record before he
\nretires.<\/p>\n

\u201c100% [will earn three more submissions before retirement]. I love
\nCharles,\u201d Zalal said. \u201cCharles is my boy, one of the legends. It
\nwould be an honor just to be in the same conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zalal (18-5) was released from the UFC in 2022 after going 3-3-1 in
\nhis first stint. However, \u201cThe Moroccan Devil\u201d returned to the
\npromotion after three consecutive first-round finishes on the
\nregional circuit. Zalal has since picked up five straight wins in
\nthe UFC with four finishes. Meanwhile, Sterling (25-5) is 2-1 since
\nmoving up to featherweight and comes off a unanimous decision win
\nover Brian
\nOrtega<\/a>. <\/p>\n
