Jourdain (18-8) is coming off a unanimous decision win in a \u201cFight
\nof the Night\u201d battle against Kyler
\nPhillips<\/a> in front of his home crowd at UFC
\nWinnipeg<\/a> last weekend. This was Jourdain\u2019s third consecutive
\nbonus-winning performance in as many outings since he moved to
\nbantamweight from featherweight in 2024. \u201cAir\u201d credits the
\nimpressive streak to a knockout loss against Silva, which prompted
\nthe move to bantamweight. Weeks following the knockout loss,
\nJourdain\u2019s wife informed him that she was pregnant. Jourdain had to
\nmake a choice between giving up his dreams and turning his life
\naround, and he took the tougher path.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to thank Jean Silva,\u201d Jourdain said on \u201cThe Ariel Helwani
\nShow.\u201d \u201cEver since I got knocked out, he put sense into me\u2014going to
\n135, three in a row, three bonuses in a row. Jean Silva changed my
\nlife with that uppercut\u2026 I had no hope anymore for myself until my
\nwife came to see me after the Jean Silva fight, two or three weeks
\nlater. She said, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m pregnant.\u2019 So I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, OK. Now
\nwhat type of father do I want to be?\u2019 The guy who just gives up on
\nhis dream? No. I changed everything drastically.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Jourdain was 9-1 going into his
\nUFC<\/a> debut in 2019, the Canadian\u2019s UFC career was marked with
\ninconsistency. Alternating between wins and losses, Jourdain
\ndecided to move to bantamweight after Silva sent him to the shadow
\nrealm with an uppercut at UFC 303, also putting him on a two-fight
\nslump. Jourdain has since racked up the longest winning streak of
\nhis UFC career. Jourdain admits that he was just getting by in the
\nUFC based on his talent until the loss against Silva. However,
\nJourdain realizes that rising to the top in the UFC requires a lot
\nmore than just talent, which he is now ready to give.<\/p>\n

Changing Course<\/h2>\n

\u201cDeep down I knew I was not doing the right thing,\u201d Jourdain said.
\n\u201cI was eating pizzas, I was smoking weed. I was just fighting in
\nthe UFC riding on a wave of talent. But if you want to get up there
\nand stay in the UFC and be good in the UFC, you need to have big
\namount of professionalism, which I didn\u2019t have. I was just cutting
\nfive pounds to make the featherweight limit and fighting these
\nguys, losing split decisions, blah, blah. I was not taking my
\ncareer seriously.\u201d
