Jackson
\nMcVey<\/a> has finally picked up his first
\nUFC<\/a> win. <\/p>\n

McVey (7-2) took on Sedriques
\nDumas<\/a> (10-5) in a middleweight clash at
\nUFC Fight Night 274<\/a> in Las Vegas. \u201cThe Moose\u201d forced Dumas to
\ntap with a brabo choke a little more than two minutes into the
\nfight.<\/p>\n

This marked McVey\u2019s first win in the UFC. McVey had finished all
\nsix of his previous outings in the first round when he signed with
\nthe UFC last year. However, McVey\u2019s success on the regional circuit
\ndid not translate into the UFC. McVey suffered his first
\nprofessional loss against Brunno
\nFerreira<\/a> via a submission in his UFC debut at UFC 318 last
\nyear. McVey went on to suffer another submission loss in his
\nsophomore UFC outing against Zachary
\nReese<\/a> this past November. <\/p>\n

Staying Focused<\/h2>\n

McVey learned a big lesson from his early UFC losses. McVey notes
\nthat UFC, being the biggest platform, brings a lot of extra noise
\nalong with opportunities. McVey says that it is essential to cut
\nout the noise and focus on the job at hand, which was difficult for
\nhim in his UFC debut at a sold-out Smoothie King Center in New
\nOrleans, Louisiana.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot letting the extra stuff, the crowd\u2026 try not to let that bother
\nyou,\u201d McVey said in a post-fight interview with the UFC. \u201cJust try
\nto hone in for the fight, staying focused. It\u2019s hard, especially
\nfor that debut. I was in New Orleans; I just saw the whole place
\nwas sold out. I was like, \u2018Oh my gosh!\u2019 And that was one of the
\nbiggest lessons for me as well. Don\u2019t let anything sidetrack you
\nfrom the mission.\u201d <\/p>\n
