Poirier recently listed his top five UFC lightweights of all-time
\non \u201cDeep Waters.\u201d The list is as follows:<\/p>\n

Poirier (30-10) is also considered one of the greatest lightweights
\nwho never tasted UFC gold. Poirier made failed title bids against
\nNurmagomedov and Makhachev. While Nurmagomedov stopped \u201cThe
\nDiamond\u201d with a rear-naked choke in 2019, Makhachev did the same
\nwith a brabo choke in 2024. <\/p>\n

A Credentialed Group<\/h2>\n

Makhachev holds the record for the most title defenses (4) in UFC
\nhistory. Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov, Penn, and Edgar tie for the
\nsecond spot with three defenses each. Meanwhile, Topuria (17-0) won
\nthe vacant lightweight title against Charles
\nOliveira<\/a> last year and is scheduled to defend it for the first
\ntime against Justin
\nGaethje<\/a> on June 14 at the White House. Topuria had dethroned
\nAlexander
\nVolkanovski<\/a> to win the featherweight title and defended it
\nagainst Max
\nHolloway<\/a> before moving up.<\/p>\n

Nurmagomedov retired in 2020 as the undefeated UFC lightweight
\nchampion. Meanwhile, Makhachev moved up to welterweight and won the
\ntitle against Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> last year.  Penn (16-14) won only once in
\nthe UFC after losing his title to Edgar in 2010. \u201cThe Prodigy\u201d
\nretired in 2019 on a seven-fight losing streak, which is considered
\none of the steepest declines in UFC history. Meanwhile, Edgar
\n(24-11) dropped down to featherweight soon after losing his title
\nto Benson
\nHenderson<\/a> in 2012. \u201cThe Answer\u201d some found success at 145
\npounds and retired in 2016. <\/p>\n
