Wesley
\nSchultz<\/a> never had any doubt that he would pull off the victory
\non Saturday.<\/p>\n

Making his promotional debut against Schultz at
\nUFC Perth<\/a>, Ben
\nJohnston<\/a> (5-3) gave his all and won the first two rounds on the
\nscorecards. The defending Schultz had no answer on the ground, with
\nhis submission attempts for the first 10 minutes unable to land.
\nHowever, when Round 3 struck, \u201cParty Time\u201d turned the tables
\ncourtesy of a slick guillotine choke.<\/p>\n

The submission danger forced Johnston to spit out his mouthpiece so
\nhe could continue breathing. As referee Rich
\nMitchell<\/a> returned Johnston\u2019s mouthpiece, Schultz redoubled his
\neffort on his guillotine. The Aussie could hold on no longer,
\nsurrendering to give Schultz an impressive come-from-behind win.
\nSchultz admits that he didn\u2019t listen to his coaches in the early
\nrounds, as he wanted to ease into the fight. \u201cParty Time\u201d was
\nconfident that he would catch his opponent eventually, but he just
\nneeded to find the right opening. Schultz explained his post-fight
\ninterview:<\/p>\n

\u201cTaking away from this\u2013keeping my fight clean, maybe putting a
\nlittle more effort in the first couple of rounds, listening to my
\ncoaches. I could hear them, mentally I was really focused, I was
\njust physically out of focus,\u201d the fighter expressed. \u201cThey told me
\nto get up and stuff, I just didn\u2019t. I didn\u2019t wanna work that hard.
\nI was like, \u2018I\u2019m gonna get the neck at some point. Four to five
\ntimes [I tried].\u2019 I was lucky it worked. Otherwise, that would have
\nbeen 25 hours of flying home thinking about how bad I did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schultz (9-3) has finished six of his nine career wins via
\nsubmission. While he came up short in his first Dana White’s Contender Series<\/a> opportunity in
\n2024, his second chance proved to be the one to get him on the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> roster. In his
\norganizational debut this February, Schultz suffered a first-round
\nknockout loss at the hands of Damian
\nPinas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Johnston (5-2) has served as an integral part of
\nIsrael
\nAdesanya<\/a>\u2019s camp, notably assisting the champion to his UFC 287
\nknockout win over Alex
\nPereira<\/a> in 2023. The 35-year-old hadn\u2019t fought since 2024,
\nfocusing on coaching instead, before accepting a short-notice
\nopportunity for a UFC debut at Perth on Saturday.<\/p>\n
