Erceg battled on Elliott in front of his home crowd at
\nUFC Perth<\/a> on Saturday, where he picked up a hard-fought
\ndecision. Mid-match, Elliott could be heard shouting after landing
\na takedown. Erceg recently revealed his mid-fight exchange with
\nElliott. Elliott was grinding his chin on Erceg\u2019s eye after taking
\nhim down. As Erceg tried to get separation, Elliott accused the
\nAustralian of poking him in the eye. When Erceg accused Elliott of
\nthe same, the 39-year-old playfully proffered to him that grinding
\nwith his chin is not a foul\u2014under the Unified Rules, an illegal eye
\ngouge can occur from the fingers, elbow or chin. Erceg remarked in
\nhis post-fight interview:<\/p>\n

\u201cHe took me down in the first round. He’s putting his chin in my
\neye,\u201d Erceg rehashed. \u201cI\u2019m trying to get his chin off my eye cause
\nit f—ing hurt. And he goes, \u2018He\u2019s poking me in the eye.\u2019 I\u2019m
\nlike, \u2018You\u2019re f—ing poking me in the eye.\u2019 He goes, \u2018Chin\u2019s
\nlegal, motherf—er.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Here we go, we\u2019re in a fight,
\nthat\u2019s what we\u2019re here for.\u2019 It was just fun all around.\u201d<\/p>\n

After surviving adversity on the ground in the first round, Erceg
\nwent on to box up his opponent to get the nod on all three
\nscorecards. While Erceg trusts his gas tank, he knew Elliott could
\nnot keep up with him. Erceg notes that while he picked his
\nintensity as the bout progressed, Elliott moved around with frantic
\nenergy, which may be difficult to maintain for 15 minutes. The
\nAussie noted:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe performance is what made it better\u2026 He moves so much. Doesn\u2019t
\nmatter how fit he is. I\u2019m so fit. And even if he was slightly
\nfitter than me, like if we went for a run. He is moving twice or
\nthree times the amount I\u2019m moving. I\u2019m pacing, I\u2019m waiting for my
\nspots. He can\u2019t keep that up forever. After a couple of those
\nscrambles, he got up, I saw him panting, I was like, \u2018Here we go,
\nthe ball starts rolling, I\u2019m coming,\u2019\u201d Erceg explained.<\/p>\n

Crashing into the UFC in 2023 to pick up three wins and a title
\nshot the next year, Erceg (14-4) subsequently fell on a three-fight
\nslump. \u201cAstro Boy\u201d has since rebounded with back-to-back decision
\nwins over Ode
\nOsbourne<\/a> and Elliott. Meanwhile, Elliott (21-14) was coming off
\nfinishes over Su Mudaerji<\/a>
\nand Kai
\nAsakura<\/a> going into his clash against Erceg.<\/p>\n
