\nStrickland<\/a> believes he can get up if he is taken down by
\nKhamzat
\nChimaev<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Strickland is scheduled to challenge Chimaev for the middleweight
\ntitle in the main event at
\nUFC 328<\/a> on May 9 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
\nWhile Chimaev is known for his suffocating brand of wrestling,
\nStrickland has elite takedown defense.<\/p>\n

Fans and pundits are divided about how the UFC 328 headliner might
\nplay out. While some expect complete domination from Chimaev, who
\nis the favorite, others believe Strickland might be the only answer
\nto the undefeated Chechen-born champion.<\/p>\n

Having trained together in the past, Strickland believes Chimaev
\nknows that he can\u2019t keep him on the ground for long. Strickland
\nbelieves he can counter-wrestle Chimaev and get top control.
\nStrickland predicts that \u201cBorz\u201d might even resort to a stand-up
\nbattle if he fails on multiple takedown attempts. If the fight
\nstays on the feet, Strickland believes he will be able to have his
\nway with the champion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think a part of him knows that if we do wrestle, I\u2019m just going
\nto counter-wrestle,\u201d Strickland said in an episode of UFC 328
\n\u201cCountdown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll get up, I\u2019ll get on top. Or complete opposite, he knows he
\ncan\u2019t take me down, and then we just kickbox for five rounds. And
\nif that happens, you\u2019re going to see him getting frustrated, throw
\nbig punches, trying to hit me. And I\u2019m just going to tag him at
\nwill.\u201d<\/p>\n

The confidence Strickland has in his skills is partially inspired
\nby how he perceives Chimaev as a “bully.” Claiming that he pursues
\nthe best challenges when training while Chimaev may take the easier
\npath by sparring with “average” opponents, he feels this gives him
\na serious edge mentally and physically.<\/p>\n

\u201cMe and him are just two different breeds, fundamentally different
\nmen,\u201d he continued. \u201cIf I walk into a gym, I will spar the hardest
\nand best guy, because I wanna test myself and I wanna find out who
\nI am as a person\u2026 Chimaev is completely different. Chimaev might
\npick an okay guy, beat the dog out of him, just to walk away and be
\nlike, \u2018I\u2019m Chimaev, I\u2019m a bully, I just beat this guy up.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Strickland (30-7) lost his title and failed to regain it in a
\nrematch against Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a>, whom Chimaev (15-0) dominantly dethroned last year.
\nHowever, Strickland recently scored a dominant stoppage win over
\nAnthony
\nHernandez<\/a>, who is also known for his grappling.<\/p>\n
