\nMcGregor expressed excitement about the fight on X, formerly known
\nas Twitter, while laying claim to the middleweight belt.<\/p>\n

Considering McGregor (22-6) started his UFC career at
\nfeatherweight, a middleweight move will be a massive jump for the
\nIrishman. While McGregor won the featherweight and lightweight
\ntitles, he defended neither. \u201cNotorious\u201d won his last UFC fight at
\nwelterweight against Donald
\nCerrone<\/a> in 2020. McGregor then suffered consecutive stoppage
\nlosses against Dustin
\nPoirier<\/a>, suffering a leg injury in his most recent outing in
\n2021. While McGregor recovered from the injury within a year, he
\nhasn\u2019t fought since, despite teasing a return multiple times.<\/p>\n
