\nPoirier<\/a> to come out of retirement.<\/p>\n

A matchup between Poirier and Diaz is one of the most anticipated
\nbouts that never came to fruition. However, Poirier is still
\nwilling to come out of retirement to fight Diaz.<\/p>\n

Poirier and Diaz were scheduled to fight at UFC
\n230<\/a> in 2018 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight
\nfell through as Poirier was allegedly forced out due to a hip
\ninjury. However, Poirier claims the narrative was slightly
\nmanipulated. According to \u201cThe Diamond,\u201d he was willing to fight
\nDiaz, who was having negotiation issues with the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>. Poirier claims the UFC offered
\nhim alternative opponents for UFC 230. However, Poirier only wanted
\nto fight Diaz, or have a hip surgery instead of fighting anyone
\nelse. Poirier claims Diaz manipulated the narrative and blamed him
\nfor the fight falling through.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still wanna whip Nate\u2019s a**… I\u2019ll come back to fight him\u2026 The
\nUFC knew I was going to fight Nate in our first matchup in Madison
\nSquare Garden,\u201d Poirier said on UFC on Paramount. \u201cNate was having
\ntrouble with his negotiation. I don\u2019t know what was going on. But
\nUFC called me and said, \u2018Hey, we want to keep you on the MSG card,
\nwould you fight so and so?\u2019 They started to offer me other people.
\nI said listen, \u2018If it\u2019s not Nate, I\u2019m not fighting. I\u2019m going to
\nhave my hip taken care of. If it\u2019s Nate, I\u2019ll fight.\u2019… And then
\nNate used that — like I was the fall guy, like the fight\u2019s off
\nbecause I pulled out. But I never pulled out. I just didn\u2019t want to
\nfight anybody else but Nate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diaz (21-13) retired from the UFC with a submission win over
\nTony
\nFerguson<\/a> in 2022. Diaz has since lost a boxing match against
\nJake
\nPaul<\/a> and won another against Jorge
\nMasvidal<\/a>. Diaz is now scheduled to fight Mike Perry<\/a>
\non an MVP MMA card on May 16 at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
\nMeanwhile, Poirier (30-10) hung up his gloves following a decision
\nloss against Max
\nHolloway<\/a> last year. Poirier has made no secret of the fact that
\nhe misses fighting.<\/p>\n
