\nChimaev<\/a> in a shocking upset to win the middleweight title via a
\nclosely-contested split decision at UFC 328<\/a>
\nlast weekend in Newark, New Jersey. Strickland had insulted
\nChimaev\u2019s race, ethnicity and religion in the lead-up to the fight.
\nHowever, the two showed mutual respect after the fight, and
\nStrickland apologized for going too far with the trash talk.
\nStrickland justified his words saying he was trying hard to sell
\nthe fight.<\/p>\n

Strickland has since expressed interest in defending his title
\nagainst Imavov, who vows to knockout the newly-crowned middleweight
\nchampion. Responding to Imavov\u2019s comments, Strickland said that he
\ncan\u2019t avoid racism. However, Imavov warns Strickland that he has
\ncertain boundaries when it comes to trash talk. The Frenchman says
\nthat targeting his religion, family and nation won\u2019t be forgiven as
\na marketing gimmick. Unlike the narrative with Chimaev, Imavov
\npromises Strickland that there will be no happy ending.<\/p>\n

Imavov (17-4) suffered his last loss against Strickland in 2023.
\n\u201cThe Sniper\u201d has since racked up a five-fight winning streak
\nagainst elite competition. Imavov most recently defeated fellow
\ncontender Caio
\nBorralho<\/a> in September 2025. <\/p>\n
