The vacant welterweight title will be on the line when
\nProfessional Fighters League<\/a> heads to the nation\u2019s capital this
\nsummer.<\/p>\n

The promotion announced on Wednesday that undefeated 2025
\ntournament winner Thad Jean<\/a>
\nwill lock horns with 2024 PFL champ Shamil
\nMusaev<\/a> for the 170-pound strap at CareFirst Arena in
\nWashington, D.C., on July 25. The
\nPFL D.C.<\/a> main card will be broadcast live on ESPN beginning at
\n10 p.m. ET\/7 p.m. PT, while prelims will air via the ESPN app
\nbeginning at 7 p.m. ET\/4 p.m. PT. More bouts will be announced in
\nthe coming weeks.<\/p>\n

According to a release, the welterweight title was vacated when
\nRamazan
\nKuramagomedov<\/a> was stripped of the belt. Kuramagomedov defeated
\nMusaev via unanimous decision to capture the 170-pound championship
\nat
\nPFL Dubai<\/a> on Feb. 7. Kuramagomedov announced his retirement
\nafter the victory, which is apparently why he was stripped.<\/p>\n

\u201cThad Jean did everything that was asked of him. He won the 2025
\ntournament, beat elite competition, took the hardest path, and now
\nhe can finish the job and become PFL welterweight world champion on
\nJuly 25,\u201d said PFL CEO John Martin in a release. \u201cStanding across
\nfrom him is Shamil Musaev, one of the most proven and dangerous
\nwelterweights in the world, a fighter in pursuit of the one thing
\nhe doesn\u2019t have yet: PFL gold. This is a massive world championship
\nfight between two of the best welterweights on the planet, and I
\ncan\u2019t wait to bring it to Washington, D.C. live on ESPN.\u201d<\/p>\n

‘Silverback’ vs. ‘Silent Assassin’<\/h2>\n

Jean emerged as a person of interest in the welterweight division
\nthanks to his run through the PFL tournament in 2025. Victories
\nover Mukhamed
\nBerkhamov<\/a>, Jason
\nJackson<\/a> and Logan
\nStorley<\/a> propelled \u201cSilverback\u201d through the bracket, cementing
\nhis spot as a title contender.<\/p>\n

Musaev, meanwhile, emerged as one of the world\u2019s top welterweights
\nwhen he won the 2024 PFL championship while competing in the
\norganization\u2019s former season format. \u201cSilent Assassin\u201d defeated the
\nhighly-touted Magomed
\nUmalatov<\/a> via third-round TKO at the 2024 PFL championship to
\ncomplete a 4-0 campaign in 2024. Musaev suffered his first career
