\nlooking forward to changing that in impressive fashion.<\/p>\n

As the only man to defeat legendary flyweight Demetrious
\nJohnson<\/a> via knockout, the Brasilia, Brazil, native looks to
\nprove that lightning can indeed strike twice.<\/p>\n

Not long ago, the 37-year-old spoke to Sherdog.com in his native
\nPortuguese about exploring free agency after an 11-year stint at
\nOne
\nChampionship<\/a>. Jake Paul<\/a>\u2019s
\nMost Valuable Promotions signed him up almost immediately:<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything happened quickly,\u201d Moraes said. \u201cRight after I gave
\ninterviews letting people know I was a free agent, the opportunity
\ncame up, to be on the MVP card. It\u2019s going to be a great fight.
\nLike every fighter, I too have the dream of being in the UFC<\/a>
\none day. But since this great opportunity materialized as I was
\ncoming off a loss, it\u2019s my chance to show that I do belong among
\nthe best. I think that my opponent presents an excellent
\nopportunity to prove this. Although the purse isn\u2019t the best, nor
\nis it the worst, it\u2019s a great clash on a card full of legends. It
\nwill be an honor for me to be part of this event. Without a doubt,
\na good win will have me knocking on the UFC\u2019s door, ready to take
\non a ranked opponent.\u201d<\/p>\n

The MVP \u201cRousey vs. Carano\u201d card takes place on May 16 at Intuit
\nDome in Los Angeles. American fans will be able to catch the live
\nbroadcast on Netflix. Moraes got ready again at
\nAmerican Top Team<\/a>, a celebrated champions factory located in
\nsunny Florida.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this camp, I did a lot of work with Pedro
\nMunhoz<\/a>. When [original opponent] Muhammad
\nMokaev<\/a> came through here some years ago, he trained a lot with
\nMunhoz, who now works as one of the ATT coaches. I worked on my
\nmuay thai, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, MMA and boxing. I want to show up
\nvery ready. I aim to score another win, to improve upon my career
\nand legacy.<\/p>\n

Moraes was booked to face the dangerous Mokaev, but destiny had
\nother plans. Mokaev was replaced at the last hour by another
\nundefeated, though lesser-known fighter \u2013 Longo-Weidman MMA\u2019s
\nPhumi
\nNkuta<\/a>. Adjustments have been made.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast week, unfortunately, Mokaev had travel visa problems and
\nwon\u2019t be able to come to the U.S. to fight this Saturday,\u201d Moraes
\nsaid. \u201cHe was replaced by Nkuta. I\u2019m relieved that this warrior
\nstepped up so I can still fight. Our strategy changed a bit since
\nPhumi is quick and short. He\u2019s similar to Demetrious Johnson. By
\ncomparison, Mokaev is a bit taller, closer to my height. He\u2019s
\nslower but a better striker. Both fighters are wrestlers, so not
\ntoo much has changed. Thankfully, I was already well-prepared. I
\nspent a lot of time training with [former UFC champ] Alexandre
\nPantoja<\/a> and [former
\nRizin Fighting Federation<\/a> and Bellator
\nMMA<\/a> champ] Kyoji
\nHoriguchi<\/a>, who are both short like Phumi. Our objective is the
\nsame as always — to win. It doesn\u2019t matter how, though I\u2019ll look
\nto catch him either on the ground or on the feet with my sharp
\nstriking and jiu-jitsu. I\u2019m looking for a finish. I\u2019m happy that
\nPhumi came in as a replacement, so my fight wouldn\u2019t be canceled.
\nI\u2019m going to give all I have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some fighters hope that MVP will continue to put on regular MMA
\ncards. But Moraes remains focused on this dream:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe MVP card is a one-fight deal. So, once it wraps up, everyone
\nwill be a free agent again. I\u2019m focused on winning well and then
\nmaking my UFC dream come true. Every fighter has that dream. Mokaev
\nhad that opportunity, but he wasted it. Now is my chance,
\nconsidering everything I\u2019ve accomplished in the sport. I\u2019m going to
\ngive everything I\u2019ve got. I\u2019m all in. I\u2019m very motivated and very
