Van (17-2) put his flyweight title on the line against Tatsuro
\nTaira<\/a> in the co-main event at UFC 328<\/a>
\non Saturday in Newark, New Jersey. \u201cThe Fearless\u201d showed excellent
\ntakedown defense while picking Taira apart on the feet en route to
\na fifth-round stoppage win. Many had refused to consider Van a
\nlegitimate champion after he won the title against Alexandre
\nPantoja<\/a> due to an injury last year. <\/p>\n

As Van left no doubt in his first title defense, Kape took a shot
\nat the champion\u2019s haters. Kape believes the only reason fellow
\nflyweights slammed Van is jealousy. Kape congratulated Van on his
\nwin over Taira. <\/p>\n

Kape further noted that he had an involuntary role to play in Van\u2019s
\nrise to title contention. Kape and Brandon
\nRoyval<\/a> were originally scheduled to fight in 2025, before
\nRoyval pulled out due to an injury. While the matchup was postponed
\nto UFC 317 in June, this time, Kape was forced out with an injury.
\nVan replaced Kape on three weeks\u2019 notice and defeated Royval to
\nearn a title shot against Pantoja. Meanwhile, Kape (22-7) is riding
\na three-fight finishing streak. \u201cStarboy\u201d is scheduled to fight
\nfellow flyweight contender Kyoji
\nHoriguchi<\/a> (36-5) at a
\nUFC Fight Night on June 20<\/a> in Las Vegas. Kape hopes to
\nchallenge Van for the title in the near future.<\/p>\n

\nof people and fighters have been hating on him, and the only answer
\nI can find is jealousy. Many fighters can\u2019t handle the success of
\nothers, and that\u2019s exactly why they\u2019ll never truly succeed
\nthemselves. The journey started when he took the opportunity after
\nI broke my foot he stepped in and beat Royval. Congrats to the
\nyoung man. But I\u2019ll see you soon, and I\u2019ll take back what is mine.
\nNot on my time\u2026 on Allah\u2019s time.\u201d
