Arman
\nTsarukyan<\/a> believes coach Sam Calavitta had little role to play
\nin Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a>\u2019s title loss at UFC
\n328<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Chimaev (15-1) lost his middleweight title to Sean
\nStrickland<\/a> at UFC 328 earlier this month. Chimaev was evidently
\nfatigued in the second round, which forced him to abandon his
\nwrestling thereafter. Fans and pundits have since started
\nquestioning Chimaev\u2019s training under Calavitta at The Treigning Lab
\nin California.<\/p>\n

Chimaev and Tsarukyan have long been training strength and
\nconditioning under \u201cCoach Cal\u201d at \u201cThe Garage,\u201d which is home to
\nThe Treigning Lab. Tsarukyan notes that the same fans who are
\nquestioning Calavitta were heaping praises on him when Chimaev
\ndominated Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a> for 25 minutes to win the title last year. Tsarukyan
\nexplains that strength and conditioning is only a minor part of a
\nfighter\u2019s training, which majorly depends on sparring and technical
\ndrills.<\/p>\n

More Than Strength and Conditiioning<\/h2>\n

\u201cWhen you lose, everybody is trying to find excuses,\u201d Tsarukyan
\nsaid on the “Jaxxon Podcast.\u201d<\/a> \u201cBut when he won his title,
\neverybody said \u2018Coach Cal\u2019 did great job\u2026 People are always gonna
\nsay something, and you gotta take it\u2026 Strength and conditioning is
\nnot MMA. It gives you good cardio, but if you are not wrestling,
\nnot sparring, if you don\u2019t like to work on your technique, this
\ngarage work is not gonna help you. It\u2019s like 5%, maximum 10% of
\nyour MMA fight. It\u2019s not a big deal.\u201d <\/p>\n

Many believe Chimaev currently lacks an MMA head coach. Kamaru
\nUsman<\/a> pointed out that Tsarukyan, who hasn\u2019t even fought for a
\ntitle yet, was seemingly leading Chimaev\u2019s corner at UFC 328.
\nMeanwhile, Georges St.
\nPierre<\/a>\u2019s coach Firas Zahabi recently pleaded with Chimaev to
\njoin Tristar Gym. <\/p>\n
