Gina
\nCarano<\/a>\u2019s first mixed martial arts appearance in nearly two
\ndecades was abbreviated, to say the least.<\/p>\n

The Strikeforce<\/a>
\nand EliteXC<\/a>
\nveteran was quickly taken down and submitted by Ronda
\nRousey<\/a> just 17 seconds into the
\nMVP MMA<\/a> main event this past Saturday at the Intuit Dome in Los
\nAngeles. Considering Rousey\u2019s penchant for quick victories \u2014 she
\nhad eight previous wins in less than a minute \u2014 it shouldn\u2019t have
\nbeen all that surprising.<\/p>\n

Carano reflected on the experience during her post-fight
\ninterview.<\/p>\n

“I wanted that to last longer. I felt like I was so ready. I felt
\nso good. I’ve never felt that good, but I haven’t been here for 17
\nyears. I wanted to hit her,\u201d Carano said. \u201cI\u2019ll probably feel
\n[unfulfilled] later, but right now getting in the cage was a
\nvictory. Getting here after 17 years was a victory. Fighting a
\nlegend was a victory, and I feel great. I feel like I just wanted
\nto fight, and I didn’t get that.<\/p>\n

“She trained, she had her game plan, and I have so much love and
\nrespect for her. This was a victory in my life. She changed it. I
\nwoke up every morning at 3 a.m. thinking about her. I took 100
\npounds off of my body, which is going to give me a longer life. I
\nfell back in love with mixed martial arts. There’s so many good
\nthings to think about here. It’s just the fight didn’t go my
\nway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Uncertain Future<\/h2>\n

Carano hadn\u2019t fought since August 15, 2009, when she suffered a
\nfirst-round technical knockout loss to Cristiane
\nJustino<\/a> under the Strikeforce banner. Whether the 44-year-old
\nfights again remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know,” Carano said. “I think 17 years was a lot. I think
\nbeing 44 was a lot. I don’t know if I can put my family back
\nthrough that. But I’m going to go look at this. I didn’t get
\nanything out. I didn’t get to do anything in this fight.. You just
\nnever know with me. I should’ve got matched up with a striker. I
\nwanted to get some of that out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite some disappointment at not being able to showcase her
\nskills, Carano\u2019s overall feeling was one of gratitude. Her biggest
\ntakeaway from the experience was simply being able to fight
\nagain..<\/p>\n

\u201cThat I could do it. That I could train, I could get up every day
\nand stay dedicated\u2026It\u2019s not easy to get in here. It is not easy to
\nbe in the gym every day and wake yourself up,\u201d Carano said. \u201cBut I
\nadore Ronda. I don\u2019t want to fight Ronda. I think she\u2019s a legend.
\nShe should go have her babies at her ranch and do whatever she
\nwants to do. I just enjoyed the process.\u201d<\/p>\n

Update: Carano also released a lengthy statement regarding the
\nfight via Instagram on Monday.<\/i><\/p>\n
