Topuria and Hokit got into an altercation during a promotional
\npresser for the event earlier this month in Newark, New Jersey.
\nHokit launched an unprovoked tirade on Alex
\nPereira<\/a>, who fights Ciryl Gane<\/a>
\nfor the interim heavyweight title on the same card. Pereira and
\nTopuria had traveled together to visit President Donald Trump just
\nahead of the presser. Topuria, who was sitting next to Pereira,
\nstood up to defend \u201cPoatan\u201d against Hokit\u2019s rant. Things heated up
\nwhen Topuria threw a glass of water at Hokit. However, security
\npersonnel intervened before things could escalate. <\/p>\n

\u2018I Couldn\u2019t Believe It\u2019<\/h2>\n

Topuria recently opened up about his altercation with Hokit. \u201cEl
\nMatador\u201d explains that he was enraged when Hokit insulted Pereira\u2019s
\nmother. While Topuria understands the usual trash talk in MMA, he
\nbelieves certain boundaries mustn\u2019t be crossed with millions of
\nfans watching. Topuria believes someone could have gotten hurt in
\nthe altercation, and he is certain that it wouldn\u2019t have been
\nhim.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d Topuria said in a recent interview with
\nABC. \u201cI\u2019ve been in many press conferences, I have seen everything.
\nBut I have never seen someone stand up and talk about someone\u2019s
\nmother in such a disrespectful way. It was pretty disrespectful\u2026
\nAnd for no reason, you\u2019re not even going to fight him. You can talk
\nabout the other\u2019s professionalism, you can go after each other,
\nit\u2019s fine, we\u2019re used to it, we know what we\u2019re in for. But talking
\nabout someone\u2019s mother in that way just made my blood boil. We
\ncan\u2019t set that example here. Millions of people are watching us\u2026
\nLuckily, he had so many security people there because come on, one
\nof the two was going to come out worse off, and it wasn\u2019t going to
\nbe me.\u201d <\/p>\n
